We have 2 extra large dogs that cost a lot to feed.

Depending on your budget: Purina Pro plan (often on sale at tractor supply) and if you set up an account with Purina online you can scan your receipts from getting the food (fun fact cat or dog) and you will get points that add up to a free bag.

So depending on the costs of dog food around your area you can calculate to see if it would be financially worth it to buy a few extra bags when their on sale and if the savings plus the free bag from points even out cheaper dog food without deals from your area.

        I hope this helps!

We feed our dogs Purina Pro Plan and next to Hills Science it is highly recommended by our vet and all 3 of them have had healthy check ups and weighy checks (bassethounds).

Purina works great. I have given it to all my dog. Not stomach issues. Also buy it in the large bags. It’s usually a good savings per pound that way.

If we really can’t afford good dog food, I’ll make some up with a half can pumpkin plain.

            A half cup cooked oats.

And sprinkle some frozen peas or green been.

Dash of Omega 3 oils or fish oil and a dash turmeric powder I used those amounts for my big 80lbs chessy.

And what ever discounted meats I can chase up like the other day I got a couple lbs of beef liver on sale.

Some ingredients may be more expensive depending where you live but at least you know what your dogs eating, and it’s not over cooked cancer kibble, my dogs have heathy bowel movements and my 10 y/o chessy is a very heathy active boy.

              Costco brand (Kirkland).

I’ll add bacon bits or green beans ect… from left overs. Or get aldi or Lidil canned wet dog food and add a spoonful to make it taste better.

If I can’t get to Costco I get Rachel Ray. I tried the expensive ones but my dog didn’t do well for some reason.

That’s the one place to not skimp on. Cheap food creates high vet bills.

If you’re in the United States, I would stick with one of the five brands that meet WSAVA guidelines.
                  Hills
                  Purina
                  Royal Canin
                  Eukanuba
                  Iams

Go to your local butcher and see if you can purchase food for your dogs , where I live they grind up all the old meat and sell it as dog food , they freeze it so it’s always available and.

Feed your doggo what you can afford.

I fed our last dog quality food and always looked at the ingredients of her treats. She ended up passing at 2YO from an autoimmune disease that we wouldn’t of ever been able to prevent. After that experience I say do what’s best for you wallet and what your dog enjoys!
