No matter what I do other than not wash them the insides get stiffer and scratchier each time and it drives me nuts.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
PattiI use very little detergent. Vinegar is magic!
JeanI use wool balls in the dryer, instead of fabric softener. Inexpensive at stores like home goods, t j max or Marshalbs. last forever.
PattyAre you sure you’re rinsing all the detergent out? Try adding less detergent to the load. The liquid stuff only needs like 2 – 3 tablespoons for a whole load.
GiGiHigh Efficiency washers use so much less water the rinsing is not efficient.. Use the Bulky setting to get more water in the washer, and use only two tablespoons detergent and a half cup white vinegar OR a little bit of fabric softener in the rinse.
JaniceTurn them inside out that’s the first trick.
Then use dryer balls. My favorite are the woolies. Come in sets of 4 and 6 I think. They last forever if your dogs don’t steal them.
ShawnSounds lije you are using too much soap and/or not enough rinsing. What you are describing is just like that.
ElizabethNothing will stop the inside of a sweater from eventually pilling. It’s just not something that you can’t stop from happening.
The fibers literally rub together and wear on each other ! Just wash less often!
Don’t miss: Has anyone tried and had success with laundry eco sheets instead of detergent?
NadineDo a laundry strip. It removes build up from the fabric and will definitely rejuvenate your things.
JameelahI learned about Vinegar thru this page and 1 year later I use 2 tbsp detergent, a sprinkle of baking soda, and a cup of Vinegar in every wash. My clothes are soft and no odors.
It really does work. I gave my fabric softener away because the Vinegar works better.
No buildup.
JameelahNo fabric softener – use vinegar 1/4 cup for small load 1/2 cup for large – put right into spot you would normally put the softener. 34 years – 4 children – hundreds of hoodies that i didn’t even put into the dryer – they were hung and were still soft.
DeidreUse less detergent and try either fabric softener or half a cup of vinegar in the rinse. If you are using a clothesline rather than a dryer, then sometimes that’s just the way it is.
AmandaUse very little unscented soap and one unscented dryer sheet. I wash things I want to stay new and soft on gentle.
I mostly dry for a shot time on low, but I also hang dry sometimes. The key is to keep socks underwear and towels separate from your other clothes, so they only need a light/gentle/very little soap wash.
