I am 56 years old and plan on submitting my notice to retire next week after 34 years of corporate life. Please tell me what you enjoy about retirement!

Retirement marks the beginning of a new chapter in life, offering freedom to explore passions, hobbies, and opportunities that may have been set aside during working years.

Whether it’s traveling, spending more time with loved ones, picking up new skills, or simply enjoying a slower pace of life, each person’s retirement journey is unique.

What brings you the greatest joy in this phase? Is it the flexibility in your daily routine, the chance to rediscover old interests, or something else entirely?

Share your thoughts and experiences—your perspective might inspire others to embrace this stage with enthusiasm!

      Thank you!

        Triple the amount of life.
Most people get 5 hours a day that is theirs. 5 hours where they are exhausted. Wiped out. With barely enough energy to stare at a screen at night.

Now you will have 15 hours a day. Every day.

Where you have enough energy to do all the things you ever wanted to do

          Setting your own hours.
Follow your body rhythm, follow your interests, discover/ create a whole new world.

I really want to hear more about what people enjoy, please. I’m working for my dream of what I can not work and want to know how others seize the moment.

Waking up when I feel like it, usually 8 am, going to bed at midnight or whenever I feel like it.

Taking my dogs out to the horse barn to care for my horse. Return to the house and hubby is fixing his breakfast.

I then check my Etsy orders and we talk about what we will do that day.

Totally a relaxed attitude and some days I don’t want to leave the house and don’t.

I enjoy getting up everyday with nothing I have to do. I’m building a new bedroom for my teenager and building a car. Last month I put in a new brick backsplash for my wife. Whatever project I’m excited about I can go do.

When we travel we can get the cheapest plane tickets on the cheap days. We have 4 kids we fly with so that’s important.

Whenever my friends talk about work it sounds so stressful. When friends invite us over we can always go.

Friends just stop by because they know I’m there puttering around. My gas bill is very low. Lots of time with my kids.

We can go to any attractions on the weekdays when the crowds are gone.

                Every day is a weekend.

Do whatever I want whenever I want. More available to help with grandkids

Congrats! I am not retired and in my 40s but I have heard from my old colleagues who retired recently.

Some travel part time, some have part time jobs just to keep them busy and doing something that they enjoy rather than out of the necessity for a livelihood and some do both.

Flexibility, I absolutely loved my career, but it was a major commitment. Thirty five yrs of structure, now I can allocate time how I please.

I like wearing pajama bottoms whenever I want to and I like being home when my kid gets home from school!

                            1. Like other people said, wake up and go to bed as I wish
                            2. Spend more time with loved ones, without watching the clock

                            3. Have more time for the hobbies you love (I have 2 bands to play, 2 choirs to sing with and it would be amazing to have more time for another group to play with and finally get back to painting my sumi-e style works)

                            4. Travel more
                            5. Explore something new – maybe it would be a new passion

For me, it came at a point in my life where there was a lot of things to do for relatives moving out of their homes to retirement or nursing homes, cleaning out 2 houses and one apartment, estates to look after & cleaning up “messes” of things found when taking over finances as a POA.

I don’t know how I would have done it when working.

I am thankful I had the opportunity to retire early. Most of that stage is done and on too getting to help with grandkids.

Not going to work. I only ever went to work so one day I didn’t have to. I fish, I sit in my yard with my wife and dogs, I fish, I walk the beach daily, I fish, I go on a bike ride, I fish.

                                  No alarm clock
I sleep when I want, wake up when I want. This has resulted in much better sleep quality overall.

No stress eating. Huge for me.

Getting up and going to bed whenever. Doing nothing and not feeling guilty about it. Just enjoying life!

No endless streams of emails. No more pointless con calls
