We reeeeeally need to get our house rewired, what we have is so old.

But we were quoted ten grand by one of the few electricians in our area who would give us the time of day, and that is NOT even REMOTELY in the budget.

Are there programs to help poor folks with stuff like this?

We live in Ohio, if that helps\matters.

Basically… a home equity line of credit would be your best bet.

That doesn’t sound too far out, electric wire and supplies are very expensive.

I know an electrician who rewired his old house and he said he spent almost $10,000 and he did the work himself!

Ask your local Jobs Corps if they need any homes to work on. They train young people ages 16 through 24 in various trades electrician is one of the their trades

Our house was built in 1972, and also need a full rewiring. Tens of thousands here.

Instead, our electrician refitted every outlet and light switch to meet code.

Now we are safe, did not have to tear down any walls, and it was a fraction of the cost.

I don’t know if that’s an option for you, but if it is, maybe that would be better?

I’m thinking energy or tax credit maybe? Check with your utility provider and tax preparer.

I don’t know that it would be a lot of help but something is better than nothing.

Im sorry electrical work is very expensive- 10 k for rewire is a good price for a normal 3bd2bath house if any consolation it will be better to sell it with up to date wiring not to mention lower insurance costs, we need a house inspection for insurance and fire safety is a must

Maybe try re-wiring one room at a time. It doesnt all have to be done all at once.

Just the visible materials (excluding e.g wiring ) for a whole house costed me more than 1500 euros 5 years ago.

                        The Netherlands.

Add all invisible materials, labour and 10,000 sounds about right.

Is there a veteran in the home? A local VSO in your county can tell you about agencies that help veterans with various programs.
