My son is starting to read and getting into series, such as Captain Underpants. Sometimes I can find them used on Amazon, sometimes the shipping costs more than the book. (He might rip them and wants to reread them so not library not an option for the series).
Thank you!
KarenBuy Nothing sites and ask what you’re looking for.
NickThriftbooks.
KateOnce upon a child always has books! Also, a kids e-reader with hoopla (it’s library books) and a serious case.
CieloI second Thrift books, it’s an amazing site and I use it for textbooks but they have books of every genre on there.
HannahI saw an ad just the other day on here, I think the company was the book bundler. They sell whole boxes of books.
I didn’t look deep into it but now I’m wishing I’d saved it so I could link it for you.
SabrinaCheck out ‘Little Libraries’ in your area. Dolly Parton also gives each child a book a month thru her foundation.
YasminThrift shops- the kids’ books are practically like new and usually up to date.
SarahLook into apps like hoopla through your library, they offer eBooks and audio books.
KimFacebook Marketplace is a great resource for children’s books. May and June are an especially good time to look, as teachers who are retiring or teaching a different grade level the next school year often sell their classroom books for really reasonable prices. Captain Underpants is really popular, so I think your odds of finding them is pretty good!
Good luck!
Suggested: As a parent is it wrong to be frugal about school costs like year books?
BetsyLibraries usually have books for sale from fifty cents to two dollars. Usually the friends of the library has a big book sale in the summer (to get rid of books that have not been popular according to statistics, but sometimes that’s okay- the good ones get there then haha) and there is often a “fill a bag” day for super cheap.
Also- you pay taxes for the library- make use of it because they are such a wealth of resources!!
JudithMy local library has a Friends of the Library sale every Monday morning. Hardcovers are a dollar, paperbacks are 50 cents and kids books are 25 cents.
BurrisAbe books was always less expensive than thrift books. They have begun charging more for shipping but I always check there first.
Otherwise library book sales. Harder when adding to series though.
LisaGoogle free lol little libraries in your community. Also make an ask on your local Facebook Buy Nothing group. Most communities have set them up. I see people giving these and other children’s books away for free all the time. When outgrown, pass them along.
Also, this is the season for church rummage sales those and thrift shops often sell kids’ books $0.25 to $1.00 each.
LauraCostco! Or Target circle and red card has discounts or coupons on books at times!
Ask his friends’ parents if they want to do a book swap. Or coordinate one! At the holidays you could have everyone bring a wrapped book and do like white elephant rules. Or passing game.
Books are usually good grandparents gifts for birthday or holidays.
Have him make an Amazon wish list of books and you can watch for sales! Also hardcover v paperback might find better prices. Or buy slightly used at better price!
TashaToo many comments for me to read if this has been suggested, but we use the Libby app which links to your local libraries. Granted, it’s not a physical book but you can get so many of them to an app enabled device and we love it!
Can read on multiple devices using the same login which is nice when you may normally read on a tablet but get stuck in a long wait at the DMV and can read on your phone.
It’s completely free as long as you have a library card, and I believe you can register for a card online with most libraries now if you don’t have one.
