Advice please, can I use brownie mix I found in cabinet. Says expired 2022. Can I use it? Of course it is a multi pack mix. Grr.

“Has anyone used a brownie mix that expired in 2022? I just found a box in my pantry, and I’m wondering if it’s still safe to use.

I understand that expiration dates are guidelines, but I’m not sure how it might affect the taste or texture after this much time.

If you’ve tried baking with an expired mix, how did it turn out? Were there any noticeable changes in flavor or quality?

Any advice or insights on whether I should give it a shot or just buy a new mix would be really helpful!”

Should be fine. You can always open it up and taste it. If it doesn’t have the flavor of a stale cabinet wall then it’s fine.

For further clarification, look up the FDA’s guidelines online for Best Buy dates (being that most shelf stable food is good for years if not decades past manufacture).

I just did this about a week ago! They turned out beautifully, and there was no issue!

Typically cake/brownie mixes would still be good
when you first open it, give it the “sniff test”
I’ve used some much further past their ‘best by’ date without issue.

Mixes with nuts and/or oils included in them would be the most likely to go rancid.

              1. Flour bugs. 2. Leavening – most have baking powder in them which doesn’t rise as well if at all after it’s expiry.

Generally not worth wasting even more ingredients and time to make it only to find out it’s ruined…or unexpectedly crunchy.

Best to make a habit of rotating your food stocks or reducing your overall stockpile going forward instead of crying over spilled milk.

Of course you can. It has astronomical amounts of preservatives.

Add an extra egg to get additional depth/height to the finished product!

Give it a good sniff when you open it. You’ll know right away if it’s rancid. (It’s probably fine)

It’s likely that it’s nutritional benefits will be slightly reduced, but I sure don’t eat brownies for the vitamins.

Add 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder and your good to go

The baking soda or baking powder wouldn’t be any good. So best to buy a new box,
