I’m thinking about switching from using fabric softener to using dryer balls. Does anyone here use them and do they work well?

Has tried using dryer balls as a fabric softener replacement?

I’m curious about how effective they are in softening clothes and reducing static compared to traditional fabric softeners.

Do they make a noticeable difference in the feel of fabrics, and are they a good alternative for those looking to avoid chemicals or reduce waste?

I’d love to hear about your experiences, especially if you’ve used both options.

How do dryer balls impact drying time, and do they have any downsides?

      Looking forward to your insights!”

Any advice on this switch would be much appreciated.

I quit using fabric softener decades ago. It’s bad for your clothes and the environment.

I use wool dryer balls. They reduce static, and dry your clothes faster.

They do somehow magically disappear so plan on buying a 3-4 pack each year.

We don’t like extra scents in our clothing.

I also tried using the little plastic spikey balls.

Honestly they make a ton of noise in the dryer so I went back to wool balls.

I see them at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s for about $7-10 for 3-4 packs.

Used for years. No issues. I HATE heavy scents so using a non scented detergents and dryer balls leaves the clothes clean and they don’t smell of chemicals

I put vinegar in the wash cycle and use wool balls in the dryer. It is rare something comes out staticy

Loved the wool ones until my dogs discovered them. If one fell on the floor, bye bye.

On a serious note, they work great.

I had white for light clothes and black for dark loads(no lint).

I love them. Add a few drops of essential oil like orange or lemon. It’s great

Have used them for a couple years now, and will never go back to sheets.

Washer balls plus 1/4 c borax in the washer then 3 wool dryer balls in the dryer. Works very well for us.

I’m sensitive to scents and this is frugal too.

My dryer balls have been used for about 7 years now with no deterioration.

Stop using fabric softener period. Dryer balls are a waste. Just use plain ole vinegar.

Your clothing and your washer will thank you

I have 5 dryer balls in my dryer. They work well. No softener used at all for probably 5 years now.

I did it a few years ago – – I like the dryer balls, makes the clothes dry faster but they like to hide in dry loads (lol).

but love the no smells, no chemicals etc. I use them (4 at a time) for a couple years then get a new set – although they say you can wet and recharge them. – after a couple years they become cat toys – it keeps the clothes from sticking together and you get no static cling

I love my wool dryer balls. Once in awhile in winter I will use a tiny amount of fabric softener if my sweaters have static.

I’ve been using dryer balls for years. They soften the clothes, prevent static cling, don’t add scent to the clothes and very cost effective.

I bought mine at dollar tree

By using wool balls, I no longer get the oily stains on my clothes from softener sheets.

They also really help get rid of pet hair too.

I also use white wool for lights and black wool for darks.

I use white vinegar in the washing machine and 2 wool dryer balls + 2 tennis balls in the dryer.

I haven’t used fabric softener in decades.

I never have issues with static and my colors and fabrics last longer.

Things like towels shouldn’t use fabric softener.

I switched over to wool dryer balls about two years ago. I found some that were made in the USA.

                                        I really like them.

                                        I bought a 4 pack—you use them all at once…. I would suggest getting a 6 pack.

I find they work really well, and they are suppose to last up to five years (depending on how much you use them).
