Needing career advice–
Hi everyone! I’ve been following this group for 3-4 years now. Just wanted to get some opinions on possible career moves/options.
I have a BSN, worked in nursing for 9 years, the last 3 years in leadership roles (nurse manager).
I have an MBA as well that I completed prior to the management role.
In 2018, I left my full time nursing job to start a small family owned restaurant with my father. He owns them. I was responsible for all aspects of setting up, permits, hiring staff, finding vendors, payroll, and day to day management of it.
Two years later, we opened a second one and two years later we opened a third location.
During that time, I kept my nursing license and only worked PRN while doing the business full time.
A couple of years ago, I moved away and now I’m only responsible for payroll and other administrative tasks that I can do remotely. At some point, I will walk away from it entirely.
I started working back full time in nursing (staff nurse in the operating room). The nursing job pays really well (100k/yr) with good benefits.
I just find myself bored with it. It sounds bad to say “bored.” I just know I can do more and be more challenged at work.
I thought about project management, but I’m unsure on how to get in to the field. Do I need certifications like PMP? What are some other certifications?
Has anyone else been down a similar road?
Thanks for any input.
MarandaSame here. I’m a PT at a hospital. Also have started doing real estate on the side but hasn’t replaced work income. I’m “bored” as well, ha ha. Let me know what you find out!
DavidNo real help, but it sounds like you’ve got a good number of skills that could apply to different roles.
SarahI can’t help you. But you sound as though you have a fabulous personality. You are smart, energetic, and take pressure in stride, all winning traits for success. I’m sure you’ll find a career you enjoy. In terms of FIRE, just save, save save and invest in the VTSAX.
