I recently placed a credit freeze on my Equifax credit file (after a data breach from a past car loan company) but I’m having such a hard time doing the same with TransUnion and Experian credit files.

Is it enough that the freeze is on one file, or do I need to place a freeze with the other 2 companies as well? Thanks in advance!

You need all 3. Lenders typically just pull from 1 agency, not check all 3.

And it should be free. Do not get tricked into a paid version.

The other are pretty easy as well – Experian you can do via the app. The other 2 I have been able to easily freeze/unfreeze via the website

Here’s the problem, you need to use Google to search, it brings you in the back door and bypasses the sign up fee.

Google TransUnion credit freeze. Helped my sister last night.

I just had to put one on mine this week too. I only did it through Experian and my Capitol One card said they received a fraud alert put on my TransUnion file.

I haven’t seen anything about Equifax yet.

Some of them don’t make it so easy to find if you are looking on the website.. search “freeze” as the top of the page and that should help.

I struggled with Transunion too and then kept having multi hour hold times for the chat function.

Finally yesterday I was able to get through their chat and the rep put the freeze on for me.

Do not pay for this service. It’s absolutely free.
If you are prompted for a payment, you’re in the wrong place.
You have to freeze all three.

I’m going to respond to this comment with each link.
