Hello everyone, I’m in search of a super effective recipe for cleaning real wooden floors. I want to ensure that my wooden floors are thoroughly cleaned without causing any damage, especially since they’re not laminate.
Does anyone have a tried and tested recipe or method that they swear by for cleaning wooden floors? I’d love to hear about your experiences and recommendations.
Thank you in advance for any tips or suggestions you can share!
KristiHouse cleaner here! Just a couple TBS of white vinegar works fantastic!
MelanieI use vinegar&water for quick mop…for deep clean i use Murphys oil soap… our hard wood floors are original to the house, 1967.
MarilynI use Bona.
ShawnVinegar can take the finish off, I’d use Murphys oil soap and Lysol.
SusanI have used Murphy oil Soap for 30 years on wood floors.
WendyDefinitely just an oil soap and do not over-wet the floors when you mop them.
Never, never use vinegar.
AprilVinegar will STRIP it. My Mother always said drip drops of Lemon Oil on a Dust Mop. And go for it. It will clean all your floors.
If you want more than a shine use Murphy’s Soap and Oil.
LynnLysol all purpose cleaner is safe to use on hardwood.
Also, a house cleaner and I would never use hot water or vinegar on hardwood. Less is more when it comes to hardwood. Damn mop never wet, and minimal cleaner mixed in with the water.
If you need to mop twice to get the floor super clean, then do that.
Don’t miss: I’ve never had real hardwood floors so I’m looking for the best way to clean them?
CassMine are from 1975 but they were re finished, however, the planks are still in great condition.
I use vinegar in a mist bottle for disinfecting/de odor before my murphys oil soap/water in a mist bottle and a microfiber cloth mop… and then I go over it again with a clean dry microfiber pad to get any excess.
I’m terrified of the wood warping.
KimWhen my new solid wood floor was installed, he told me damp mop only with warm water and a touch of vinegar. I have natural oil finish.
CarolI use either Murphy’s oil soap or Brillo oil soap. Mild aroma, not aggressive for folks with sensitive noses. You don’t need very much maybe a cpl tablespoons. I am a professional house keeper, I get the water as hot as it can get at the tap, add the soap and I use a vileda COTTON twist mop.
I wring it out so it’s barely damp and away I go. The hot water dries or dissipates faster and the oil soap nourishes the wood.
I have been cleaning wood floors for decades and never had a problem. They come up beautiful.
AviaLearned from my father who has a cleaning company. First never use vinegar on real hardwood. You will eventually regret it. Use Murphy oil. Ring the mop out as much as you can. You want to limit how much water you put on floors.
