I’ve been thinking about trying to make my own laundry detergent at home and would love to hear from those who already do it!

If you’ve got a recipe, tips, or even a little advice on what to expect, please share.

What’s your favorite ingredient to use? Does homemade detergent work well with your washer and different types of clothes?

Are there any common issues you’ve come across? I’m especially curious about any cost savings and whether it’s really worth the effort.

Thanks in advance for your insights!”

Yes, used zote soap, washing soda, borax and water for over 20 years. I’m still working with old stock so 6 gallons costs about 3 dollars.

I make it thinner than the recipe online.

Safe in High efficiency machine as the there are no suds. 1/2 bar zote grated and dissolved in 6 cups water over medium heat.

Add 1 cup.borax and 1 cup Washing soda, fill the bucket to 3 gallons and stir.

Let it rest overnight and stir well again. Add to your saved old laundry containers use 1/2 dispenser cup full per load. More if clothes are quite dirty.

Yes. Borax, washing soda, and fels-napha…. Shred the bars of soap, add 1 box each of the other and 2 gallons water.

Mix and melt all together…. use 2 tablespoon each load

Yes, I was using a liquid fragrance free product but I prefer a dry powder of Zote, Borax, Washing Soda and Baking Soda with a few drops of essential oil works well and it doesn’t irritate my skin.

I used it for a year and saved a ton until my mom said I was damaging my high efficiency washing machine

Apparently you can only use high efficiency (very little suds) soap????

Anyway, I stopped using it immediately cause ruining my washer was going to be way more expensive than whatever savings on soap

I used to when I had city water. Now I have hard water and a He washer-it doesn’t work well in He washers. But when I made it I saved a lot of money.

My son still makes his own-he has city water…
