Um, l got caught by hubs putting dish soap from Dollar Tree in Dawn Dish soap container. So l fessed up.
I’ve been doing it for months & he said he had no idea he was using a different soap. Did the math we save money each time we use soap from Dollar Tree so he’s down & he felt bad l had to go behind his back.
To give you some perspective he came from a family that made good money but spent every dime.
My family made little but were wise with their finances so l’m super frugal…
PatriciaI can tell the difference, nothing cleans as good as Dawn for dishes, imo
CindyI will cut corners but not with dish liquid—— with other dish detergents you waste more money too because you have to use more to get effective results.
LindaI shop at Dollar General and Aldi’s – so not a brand person. But, I do find a difference btween Dawn and all other “blue” detergents that I have tried…
real Dawn works better for me.
PatriciaI don’t think I have ever seen blue Ajax dish soap. And, I can definitely tell the difference.
I use less Dawn than Ajax to get the dishes clean. So, that is where my savings happen.
LoriYou might have fooled him, but you’d never have fooled me. I can tell the difference. Nothing better than Dawn.
LindaI refuse to believe that Dawn dishwashing liquid has some sort of magical ingredient that the rest of them don’t have.
I use Palmolive and it works just fine.
CameronDawn contains peroxide
I sprayed it on blood it cleaned it right up I even reduce it even further in the platinum spray bottle still just as effectivePaulaAs far as money goes I was brought up…. It’s not how much you make, it’s how much you save
ElizabethNo way. No comparison to dawn, maybe Palmolive; not Dawn
ShonnaI would definitely be able to tell the difference. He probably doesn’t wash dishes enough to notice.
AprilI do the same with my hubby he thinks the dispenser bottles in the shower are for his ease but really it’s so I can swap the shampoo and body soap
JohnI have the same two bottles of dish soap in the kitchen. My gf uses the Dawn and I use the gigantic bottle of Ajax.
I asked her to start using the Ajax when we aren’t washing pans and she laughed at me.
Life is about balance of personalities and budgeting methods lol
ErikaTake the foamy bottles that they give you from Bath and body Works or I’m sure they have other dispensers.
And you fill that up with just a tiny tiny bit of the dish soap and then you add water and give it a good shake.
That huge thing of Dawn dish soap will last you more than a year. At least for our family of 5.
I watered down all my soaps and reuse the foam dispensers in all our bathrooms, etc. soap will last you forever this way
SarahI only ever use Dawn
To me I pay more for the quality products for things such as laundry soap and dish soapLindano dish soap stands up to Dawn. It stays. lathered and cut grease. You’d have to use 3x the Ajax just to keep it soapy.
ReneePeople are failing to realize that the suds and cleaning power (to each individual) also depend on your water. Is it hard, softened with a softener, well water etc.
Also, temperature that the individual likes… there are so many factors that can go into dish or laundry detergents that it’s not a one size fits all
AnneMy Dollar Tree sells Dawn for the same price ($1.25) as the other brands of dish detergent.
I only use Dawn because I can definitely tell the difference.
Amy“Cheap” dish soaps can be less concentrated so you have to use more to get the job done which doesn’t save you money in the end (not saying that Ajax is necessary less concentrated).
You might want to price a bigger bottle at another store though because you could be paying more per oz
CarrieI have to use twice as much, if not more for the dollar tree detergent to work. However, the great value version of Dawn is phenomenal!
It puts a few bucks back in my pocket.
I haven’t found any generic that works as well, unfortunately.
HedyI used to do that with peanut butter. My husband would only eat a certain kind, but…. he never noticed that I had refilled the Jif jar with the store brand.
I laughed every morning. I always expected him to notice and say something.
He died last year, but I still think of it with a smile when I use peanut butter.
MarilynI understand where you’re coming from. My husband and I have been discussing whether or not we need new salt and pepper shakers, dish cloths, cutting boards, cooking gear like spatulas and serving spoons, etc. I’m a NO on all.
He wants new in all cases!
