I wanted to share in case anyone could benefit from it and because I never thought about this, but a Grandma today at the store told me she buys 3 to 4 turkeys around this time and makes them year round.

She said it is a great way to feed a family and have inexpensive meat year round.

Just thought I would share this wonderful information in case you have room in your freezer to store them.

I think this is a great idea! I just baked up I( room in freezer) roughly a total of 42lbs of Turkey last week, cut meat off the bone and foodsavered several portions to eat whenever we want.

We bought one a few weeks ago and cooked it off. Pulled the meat and then made broth from the bones. I then canned the meat and the broth. I don’t need freezer room just my canning shelves.

We’ve been having soup supper every Wednesday night (it’s our busiest day).

This canned turkey has been wonderful to have on hand.

Quick and easy to throw together a turkey noodle soup, turkey rice soup, or even a quick turkey pot pie.

You can also ask the butcher to saw them in half so you don’t have to bake an entire bird.

If you have a small family, have the butcher cut the turkey in half. I did this when my 3 kids were small and still had some leftovers for sandwiches the next day.

I do the same thing. I usually buy the turkey breasts, when they go on sale.

I don’t have the storage for them so at least.33 a lb I buy one a week, cook then freeze in serving size portions.

Also portion bags for dog treats. Takes a lot less room that way!

I also buy multiple turkeys cheaply at $.49/ pound before Thanksgiving. I buy 20-24 pound birds. I thaw one bird and cut up to produce 4-6 meals plus soup.

3birds are enough to carry us through spring.

Yep turkeys this time of year before Christmas. You can get multiple meals from them and make bone broth from the carcass of a turkey and soup from the bone in a ham so none of it goes to waste.

Ours are .39 lb with a limit of two. I’ve been known to buy 2 every time I go in

I do that every year myself. We love turkey. I have 3 in my freezer right now.

Lidl had Butterballs $.99 a pound and another brand whose name keeps escaping me for $.39 a pound with a $40 purchase.

Since I can spend $40 in Lidl in one aisle that was a breeze.

A lot of places discount turkeys a ton after Thanksgiving. One year I got like 10 turkeys for $25.

I kept 2 for me and 2 for my mom and gave the rest to friends.

Winco in oregon has a deal every year. Buy $100 worth of groceries and get a free turkey.

I don’t have a deep freezer and I live alone so I always go first thing Friday morning and buy a frozen turkey breast.

They are usually under $1 a pound and I can fit one in my freezer.

The weekend after thanksgiving is the best time to buy them. Also, the weekend after Christmas Prime Rib is super cheap.

                                  I stock up yearly:)
Also, you can freeze butter…get it now

It’s so much healthier for you than lunch meat turkey also, turkey sandwiches, soup etc ,pick off the bone, and put in small portions for a few sandwiches at a time, make broth out of boiling the bones etc.

When it was just me and my ex as newly weds, I would buy large turkey, after a meal of roast turkey, I had a bunch of meal prep recipes I made and put in the freezer.

I will still freeze turkey fajitas after Thanksgiving.

I don’t remember what else I made from it but it was packaged in 4 serving portions.

It is! But I spent extra for organic raised turkey. Most commercial ones, trying to make stock made the house stink and tasted awful.

Worth it to get good bones if you’re going to use more than the meat.

Leftover turkey makes a great black bean corn turkey chili!

Yep us also. We have 1 in freezer and will use for Thanksgiving then buy 2-3 and grind larger pieces for ground turkey.

Smaller parts we’ll use for soups, etc during the coming year. $1.00 lb for ground meat certainly worth the effort.

We do this as well. Some stores limit the amount you can buy in one trip if they have them marked cheap. So far we have bought 3 turkey at 88 cents a pound, and 2 at 39 cents a pound.

I do it every year… spend 35 get a turkey for 3.99 I try to get at least 4 to 6… I usually will smoke or bake half, save the breast for lunch meat.. eat dark… boil bones for stock..

I like to debone raw meat and can… make ahead turkey soup…
grind and blend with beef lamb… sometimes all of the above.

Stretches more expensive meats when prepping meatballs or dumpling fillings.
