Has anyone in here just sold all their individual stock holdings and just held Mutual Funds or ETFs?
I mean there are quite a few that are achieving an average rate of return over 20%.
If so, what led you to this choice, and how has it impacted your portfolio’s performance and your overall investment strategy?
Were there any unexpected benefits or challenges that you encountered?
I’d love to hear about your experience and any advice you might have for someone considering a similar move.”
AngeloI only use index funds. I also don’t pick investments based on recent returns
Nic20% over what time frame?
TSLA did over 21% just today.FrankAre you still jacking around with Personal Capital/Empower? Or some other flavor of the month?
Most people never buy many individual stocks to begin with.
But jumping from strategy to strategy is the worst of all worlds.
JasmineThe equity part of my asset allocation is entirely total stock market index funds.
MichaeYep, I sold all my individual holdings in April and rebalanced into some new and existing ETFs and Mutual Funds.
Seems like they are all doing pretty well without me fiddling with them.
20% up on TSLA today feels a little bad, but I had been holding for too long and 20% up is not enough to compensate for 20% down.
PrasadYes, I did last year. Sold all individual stocks but a couple which had gains in taxable account.
I am using them for donations via Fidelity donor advised fund
å¼ æ‰¬Yes. When investing in individual stocks you need to have an exit strategy, and most people’s happen to be wrong due to lack of skill or luck.
That isn’t required with index funds.
JackMost of us just use index funds. Don’t expect 20% annual returns over time with any strategy.
LisaI still have some individual stocks that pay nice dividends. I need dividend income for retirement.
But most of mine are ETFs.
I know that I will not want to sell shares in the future so I’m focusing on dividends.
JeffIndex mutual funds and BRK.B, which is almost like a mutual fund (up 26.3% YTD), is all I have.
TomášYes I did this … but the amount wasn’t big since we are in our twenties… right now no individual stocks no advisor investments with fees …
just broker and one etf S&P for me and wife and one whole world etf for son …
ChrisI only own NVDA and BRK-B as individual stocks. All the rest are index funds.
