Has anyone tried one of those temp services where you walk in and do 1 day or short term jobs?
Do you find them worth it?
How does it work?
I’m looking for some side work and thought I could try that.
I’m considering using temp services to find 1-day jobs and would love to hear from anyone with experience.
Are these services worth it in terms of pay and convenience? How exactly do they operate?
Specifically, I’m curious about the process of signing up, the types of jobs available, and any pros and cons you’ve encountered.
Any insights or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!
LanaAbsolutely, give it a shot! I understand you’re looking for side work. But for anyone else reading this who is looking for a full-time position, I encourage you to try temp agencies, too, and tell them you’re looking for a “temp-to-perm” job, i.e., one that begins as temporary but has the potential to become permanent.
Remember, whatever experience you get at XYZ company can go down on your resume as having had experience at that company, even if it was a temp agency that got you there.
Good luck!
LaurenI worked for a company called Manpower- a temp agency. I was sent out on short-term (week long).
I did it for over a year and loved meeting different people, keeping busy.
I got their highest rating and pay increases.
If I didn’t want to work I could call in.
Great experience.
LisaI’ve had 2 temp jobs that turned into actual, good, full time jobs in fairly short order.
I stayed at each for a few years and was happy.
Both were through an agency some years apart.
In both cases, the agent at the temp agency did a superb job matching my skill set to open positions, I was able to hit the ground running at both of those jobs.
SherryMy husband was a truck driver and when we had to unload we used manpower.
He always tipped when they did a good job.
He also bought lunch when it was a long day.
And if my husband was tipped, he shared that tip.
VanessaYou could also try dog walking and pet sitting through an app like Rover
LynnI loved working temp jobs…I met so many people and learned about different sized companies.
MicheleI have found it hit or miss. I had a temporary job for 4 or 5 months then I ended up working for a world wide company for 15 yrs.
However, I’ve also worked for a temp agency where they sent me to a company & I was accused of something I didn’t do & they cut my assignment after half a days work.
It was crazy.
SheronWhen I moved to a new city, I temped as a legal assistant for about six months.
Assignments varied to a couple of weeks to two months.
I was always busy.
I found out which attorneys were good employers and which I would never want to work for! Totally worth it.
TheresaI had success with the company I temped with. Mine were mostly short term assignments.
The companies I worked for treated me well.
In fact, I had my first assignment three or four yrs ago.
Very positive and Lasted about 4 months.
I then hired in with them nearly 2 yrs ago.
NeshaMy daughter worked as an office temp after she graduated from college. Some were just a day or two, but some were pretty long term and one of them hired her permanently.
Some places largely hire from temps.
AudraIf you’re in a bigger town or city try the Wonolo app or others like it.
It’s truly single day type stuff.
I did it a few times for a little extra cash and it was mostly warehouse type work in my area.
Also if you’re in a city you can look for event jobs.
There is an app for that too but I can’t remember the name.
KellyYears ago I did. You had to show up by 1 pm and could get a job working the 3-11 shift that night and pick up your paycheck the next day.
But there was no guarantee of work any certain day.
TrishI did it everytime I moved to a new area. Great way also to test a business in case they want to hire you full time.
JacquelineI tried it once years ago and I liked it. They sent me and another girl to a car auction.
We drove the cars to the front to be auctioned.
I did it for the 3 days the auction lasted.
A lot of the people at the temp office didn’t have transportation so I was chosen quickly and paid extra to take the other girl.
