I buy flower bouquets for special occasions like Mother’s Day, birthdays and graduations.
If I am unable to be present for an event, I use familiar online flower delivery services. I have found them to be expensive, even with a promotional discount. Sometimes, the product is also disappointing with wilted edges, pale, instead of vibrantly colored flowers, or something else off about the order.
I used Instacart yesterday to buy 2 mixed bouquets and had it delivered to my MIL for less than $20 including driver tip. The flowers look great. (credit to the personal shopper who did a great job picking them out). The recipient would just need to use their own vase.
AmyThank you so much for posting this. After reading your post I had flowers, a balloon and a cheesecake sent to my aunt on her 100th birthday! It was perfect because it was all last-minute which would have been a problem… but not with InstaCart. My aunt was tickled pink!
DeborahActually, someone delivered me flowers from Walmart after original flower order with another company failed twice. The Walmart flowers have lasted 2 weeks and are absolutely beautiful. Pretty surprised actually. Kuddos to the person who picked mine out as well.
PaulaThank you I do similar when I send flowers to someone in the hospital- most gave “gift shops “ with fresh flowers (that the local florist stock) for ALOT less and normally no charge for delivery to the room and it’s within an hour or so..
Catherinegreat idea!! and less clutter because we always have too many of those cheap vases they deliver flowers with.
ArielI have done this through instacart with costco. You can have a boquet with a vase delivered for way less than traditional flower delivery.
CherieNever ever use the 1800
flower service. Always call a local to the area florist because they know what flowers they have or can get. Those 800 companies have no clue. Plus they get a huge chunk of the cost so you aren’t getting what you’re expecting. My daughter worked for a florist and they refused to fill orders for those companies. Rip offs!!!!AngelWorking for a florist, by cutting a little off the stems every other day and changing the water they will last far longer.
NancyExcellent idea! I have plenty of vases, so getting just a bunch of flowers WITHOUT a vase is better than with a vase!
AikaI’m an instacart shopper. Please PLEASE always pick a substitute bunch! I’ve written out cards for customers before, delivered cupcakes and wine etc. This is great! Eta: when you add the item it will ask for an alternative in case they are out, scroll thru and pick your second favorite. You can even do ‘special request’ and describe it. We can see the items ahead of time in a preview but not notes so when we see orders like this those of us with nice handwriting like to really jump on these and pick the best!
