Hurricane tree ideas? A truly massive sweet gum came down in our backyard during the hurricane. It fortunately chose the best path down and did not damage anything, but estimates for removing it start at $3,000.

I’m thinking of taking off the roots and most branches with my electric chainsaw (finally just got power back on).

Anyone have any frugal ideas for how to remove a gigantic tree?

Just leave it, let the kids/grandkids climb on it?

Probably not what you’re looking for, but check into ideas for using the actual trunk as a lawn or yard feature.

Perhaps it could be carved as a bench, or as an architectural feature around some newly planted shrubs or flowers?

Honestly, that’s what I would do because I couldn’t afford to have it moved.

Take your time. Cut, stack out front with a sign FREE. Someone will take it. It is a good wood to burn.

Maybe post in your For Free facebook page.

Someone might even cut it and haul.

Get it cut up and offer free firewood. We had 13 very tall pine trees cut down. Did that then Hauled the smaller branches to a mulch yard. Lot of work but very frugal!

Look up Bear Hollow Wood Carvers. Maybe they would take it off your land for you.

We had a massive cedar come down and another partially. We took the chainsaw after it. We still haven’t dealt with the root ball yet since it’s massive.

We are so thankful ours fell just on the fence line and nothing was destroyed.

We are so fortunate to not see the devastation many of our neighbors have.

Looks like the iron throne from game of thrones (but made of roots)

I would suggest that you cut off the roots, haul it around with winches off the trees behind it until you have it as a fence line along the wooded edge.

Leave some intact branches that reach up if possible.

Land scape in front of it. Hang potted plants, bird feeder, Christmas lights, sun catchers with some color from the upright branches depending on the season.

If you put a baby diaper in the bottom of the flower pot (poke holes for drainage) they will need way less water.

Let the professionals handle this. It can be very dangerous to do yourself. There is a reason it is so expensive.

Ask for help and provide some lunch to those helping?
