Surgery 2 weeks ago. Got hurt on the job but workman’s comp was filed for a fall NOT the surgery. Can’t lift pull carry more than ten pounds. Still healing.
Next three paychecks will be short. I have to go back to my very physical job in a month. I will be short two thousand dollars. I need out of the box ideas.
How to bring in that money. (Just so you know my clothes are very old, work only clothes so I can’t sell clothes.) Ideas please.
DorrieFIRST, contact your HR department. This is a work injury so by law you are covered 100% no out of pocket for anything, they need to submit an amended claim.
And your pay should be 100%. Even if you can only work PT.
Talk to your work, and if they give you the run around; call your local EEOC office.
You should pay NOTHING for a work injury, also you shouldn’t lose any wages.
DanaYou need to speak with a workers compensation lawyer! Before you go any further, if it’s related to a WP injury, your employer may be responsible for more than just surgery and WC payments.
Good luck and speedy healing!
ToniDefinitely utilize food banks. If you can’t drive ask a friend to take to you.
Call your credit card companies and ask to do a deferment for a few months
RobinExplain your situation to anyone you usually make payments to you may be able to defer payments.
I wouldn’t try to be too active and definitely do not do anything beyond your restrictions. A.
This may cause you more injuries and B. Sometimes in worker comp cases they have investigators follow you and record your activities.
JohnsonHousing
Food
Utilities and phone
TransportationThose are the bills you pay in that order
Credit cards can waitSheilaBabysit on weekends for seniors that need a companion. Do Not give meds or drive them. Big liability. Just sit while fam runs errands, needs a break.
Assist to bathroom. No pulling, lifting, etc. Serve prepared meal. You are there for safety only. No housework.
Do same for preteens weekends.nites for dates, special outings. Cook pizza. spaghetti. tuna. etc. All at their place. Be safe when you interview.
Go through church, family referrals, etc.
MistyGet a lawyer first … be careful what kind of work you do for your extra “side” job … nothing too physical … give your body time to heal …
DeniseAbout 5 years ago, I handled the WC cases for the surgeons office I worked for. (Possible out dated info is my reason for mentioning that it was 5yrs ago).
Many people are saying hire a lawyer. Once you do that, you are no longer able to speak to your employer about the case.
Everything must go through your attorney. I have seen that be beneficial, and absolutely horrifying.
However, the fact that your injury was not properly documented is concerning. Also, who is responsible for your medical bills? That’s a big deal!
KimIf your Dr has you out of work on a WC injury. You should not work at all. Healing and recovery is your job. Do your have short term disability insurance?
MorganHave you pushed further on the workman’s comp? What do you mean it was recorded for a fall and not the surgery? How would they know then and there that you didn’t need surgery?
If the surgery was needed due to the injury I would think it would be covered. Did they intentionally record the injury incorrectly?
Was there a misunderstanding? Did you not fully notice the issue at first so it didn’t seem like a big deal when reporting, thus leading to an inaccurate report?
PennyI fell over a year ago. Tore my shoulder. 7 weeks ago I had major surgery repair the tear, remove scar tissue, and reposition my bicep. All paid for by workers comp.
If you need surgery because of a fall it’s still a workers comp claim.
Find yourself a good lawyer, I would on a military post and federal comp is really difficult.
The lawyer helped so much.
LoisSuggestion, call your states insurance ombudsman through the governors office. This department oversees all insurance companies, including workman comp companies.
I had to do this with a claim, they reviewed it and made the company comply.
My lawyer actually told me to do this step.
ReneeThis is odd. I work in healthcare, my experience has been that once Worker’s Comp. acknowledges that the injury was work related, they pay for the services related to that injury.
They do watch very closely to make sure that it doesn’t go over and above anything related to that injury, but they generally pay for whatever treatment is related to that event.
Absolutely appeal all of those expenses that have not been covered. Make sure the healthcare providers understand it was supposed to be submitted to Worker’s Comp.
If you continue to have issues, you need to lawyer up.
Until then, yes, there have been some great resources mentioned on this thread for day-to-day.
