I’ve done everything I can think of to minimize my electric bill and I’m convinced I can’t get it below $90!!!
I’m looking for effective ways to reduce my electric bill to under $90 a month.
My current bill averages around $120. What strategies, tips, or upgrades can I implement to achieve this goal?
I’m particularly interested in both small daily habits and larger home improvements that can make a significant impact.
For context, I live in a 3-bedroom house and use a variety of typical household appliances.
Any advice from personal experience or professional expertise would be greatly appreciated!
Lynndon’t use dryer hang out clothes
I have switches on my toaster oven and my microwave when not in use just flip the switch off so you don’t have to plug-in unplug Run ceiling fans all the time turn the air on every day when it gets hot enoughNadineIt’s probably becauses of extra fees and taxes.
$90 is a huge win tho!MarshaI’d be thrilled for a 90 electric bill. Ours is running 400 a month and the water bill is around 150.
It’s crazy
GinaThat’s because the electric company is a gangster and charging us all for made up stuff in addition to charging an arm and a leg for the electricity
RhondaI unplug most of my things I don’t use, but using my dryer is what gets me.
I have already put things out to dry but with all the pollen and bugs that can get into your clothes etc, I won’t do it again, I found myself itching a lot.
JamieMine was 126. I have a 2400 square foot home. A well. A shop. And a barn area with electric.
It’s been hot and the central air runs. And we have lights we never turn off.
I think it depends on where you live.
What you use as energy.
Coal or water power and of course the cost of watts.
BarbI’m all electric at 900 feet in Dallas at 100 degrees plus and I’m at 100 bucks monthly with ceiling fans.
I refuse to suffer.
JamieMy dad before he past away in May installed solar lights he bought off of Amazon.
He hung one in the living room, one in the hallway, one in the bathroom.
My mom showed me her bill yesterday and it was $49.26.
JennieI see you live in Ohio. I think that’s great for a summer bill. Congrats!
BrendaYou are lucky. You.must nt live in Texas. I’m very conservative with mine & I’m lucky to keep it under $200 & my house is only about 1800 Sq ft.
VictoriaI’m a stay at home, during the hot summer months, if I have time and it’s a small load, I put laundry outside to dry.
WhitneyOh man. Mine is $290. 1100 sq ft home in south louisiana. I’d probably panic if I ever got down to $90.
VickieI would be ok with that. I am on budget and $165, but I also have gas. On budget for that also.
Good news is I don’t owe anything this month and enough credit for probably 2 more months until I start using heat again
KathyMines 29-39 except one month in winter over 100. Air at 74 home well insulated.
Closed the vents in spare bedrooms.
Ceiling fans at night and when watching TV.
Line dry over half my clothes sometimes more.
Don’t use oven in summer use microwave air fryer.
3200 square feet.
Trees help with shade. Keep garage door closed.
Take brief showers my gas is in the same price and water also but don’t have sprinklers.
AnnSquare footage? Also, does your electric company charge a base fee? I’m about $40 (of $200) before I even turn on a light.
AllisonI haven’t seen under 100 in at least 4 years. I’m lucky if it’s under 150.
The one or two months I don’t run heat or AC
Ellenlol, my delivery costs alone are at least $30, and those are costs you can’t get lower, no matter what you do, that’s not even counting my KwH cost.
I go on my state’s website for energy market (aka where you can buy your KwH from other companies than your area’s main provider for more competitive prices) and shop for the lowest KwH prices, it takes about 2 to 3 months to switch over but it can save you enormous amounts of money.
We also have solar, that also helps a lot.
Just, whatever you do, don’t lease them, just buy them.
My solar bill was $188.06! Because Tesla is money grabbing power hungry company.
My provider’s energy bill part was $66.44. Paying $254.50 for us, with running 5 AC’s, 3 de-humidifiers and lots and lots of electronics is the best we can do.
KimberlyAre you at least reducing the amount of electric that you use? The surcharges and price per kwh may be just too high.
