How do I get rid of skunk smell in my house. I don’t have means or strength to shampoo the carpets

I recently had a skunk spray near my home, and now there’s a lingering odor inside. Unfortunately, I can’t shampoo the carpets right now.

Does anyone have effective tips or DIY methods to get rid of the skunk smell without shampooing the carpets?

I’d really appreciate any advice on neutralizing the odor and freshening up the house.

      Thank you!

Boil a pot of vinegar about 1/2 hr

Time was the only thing that helped me. But I’d put fans in the windows on exhaust; one inside blowing towards the others. It took almost a month before it was gone.

          Good luck to you.

If it can be washed, use Dawn dish soap, baking soda, and peroxide. This came from a USDA worker who dispatches skunks in traps to test for rabies.

He rubs this on his body because he regularly gets sprayed. We had 6 skunks that were trapped next to our house and taken care of close to our house.

It’s been 2 weeks since the last one, and during the day when it’s hot, or humid, we can still smell it.

            I’m just glad it’s outside!

I had a skunk that took up residence in my crawl space. I just had to wait it out. Sorry I can’t be more encouraging.

Bowls of vinegar all around and mix hydrogen peroxide, dawn, baking soda, and vinegar and wash dog and all fabric touched by smell

If you know the surfaces or pets covered in the skunk spray, scrub or at least sponge down with a mixture of
                  1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide
                  1/4 cup baking soda
                  2 tsp dish soap

Mix it in an open bowl and use quickly since it’ll start breaking down and giving off oxygen

If you put it in a spray bottle use it quick and dump it out after you’re done spraying

If it’s just the smell in the air you can set up fans to get draft going throughout the house

But if it got into the house from shoes a pet a child etc you need to scrub anything and anyone that touched the stink juice

Baking soda on the carpets. Let it sit and vacuum it up. Throw out the bag or wash the hose and bin after with dawn.

Ozone machine which you can probably rent or just burn some incense.
