A good reminder to not get lazy and shop around for insurance periodically! I just saved $660/yr with the same coverage and a lower auto deductible. Maybe they’re spending too much on advertising?
When I first started my FI deep dive in 2019 I looked at every financial aspect of my life to cut the waste and optimize.
After that initial push I haven’t revisited some topics like insurance.
This year I noted how much less my girlfriend was paying for insurance than I so I had her agent run my numbers for Erie insurance.
Allstate (old): $1800/yr – $1220 auto ($2k deductible), $450 umbrella, $140 renters
Erie (new): $1140/yr – $810 auto ($1k deductible), $220 umbrella, $110 renters.
JakeKeep in mind that not all contracts are written equally, and the cheaper providers tend to fight a lot harder when it comes time for payouts.
NikkiAdd to this: Use an Insurance Broker!
They are there to do the quotes and searching and all the leg work for you; they can quickly run comparisons and will help afterwards, too.Mine found me hundreds of dollars in savings as well with better coverage for home/condo and car.
DamonThat’s why I use a broker to get quotes annually. Insurance is almost a commodity when you know what you want.
KristynBut I love Mayhem guy lol.
So true though, if I get a day off this week I will be working on this. Our insurance is absolutely out of control the last couple years.
I’m not sure how much we can save with Texas homeowners insurance being harder to get right now, but worth a try!
