How long does onion soup powder last past the best buy date while still tasting good?

I have a pack of onion soup powder that’s past its best buy date, and I’m wondering how long it’s still good to use after that.

Does it lose flavor or become unsafe after the expiration?

I know some products last well beyond their best buy dates if stored properly, but I’m not sure about soup powders.

Has anyone had experience using it after the recommended date?

How do you determine if it’s still okay to use—do you go by smell, taste, or appearance?

I’d appreciate any advice or tips on what to look out for to ensure it’s safe and still flavorful. Thanks!”

just be careful….if it’s old, i’d pour it into a small bowl first rather than adding it direct to a recipe.

my meatloaf recipe calls for onion soup mix, so I dumped the packet into a bowl full of ground beef, and it came out in clumps instead of being a powder.

So long as it’s still powder, it should be fine.

It’s all dehydrated and powdered ingredients. As long as it’s sealed, it will be fine for years past the expiration date.

As long as it doesn’t go rancid from any oil additives and smell funny it should be fine.

I like the suggestion to pour it in a separate cup first. Give it a sniff and taste test.

Doesn’t sound like you really need it. Maybe just toss it.
