      We are in BS#2.

I never imagined I’d hear this advice. Wondering if I should reduce my percentage vs completely stopping.

Follow the plan. It works. Yes, some advice seems counter to typical advice, but my best plan got me in debt and Dave’s plan got me out. Have you taken FPU?

I stopped for two years with the intention to pay down debt. Then I didn’t pay down debt, I did what I wanted. At the end of the two years I still had debt and nothing in my 401k. Don’t be like me- if you pause, make sure you pay.

If you’re going to follow the proven plan, you’ll completely stop.

As Dave says often, if you make up your own rules, you’re doing your own plan not theirs.

It’s about getting your hands on as much money to pay off your debt. It’s supposed to feel weird, hurt and motivate you to get it paid off and get your emergency fund built up so you can start investing again.

The steps work best when you follow them. No investing on steps 1-3 in 4-6 you’ll invest 15% and in step seven you’ll max out all retirement options every year. We followed Dave and retired at 43/47 my husband still does his side gig because he loves it.

Good luck on your journey to financial peace.

Stopped mine, gazelle intense means just that, gazelle intense like your life depends on it, the drastic amount more that you’ll be able to contribute after step 3 makes up for it very very quickly. Like only a couple months from not contributing for 2 years on baby step 2-3.

Bs7 here. We stopped for three years. Should have $1m net worth in 12-18 months.

We have stopped. I hate it. It makes me sick every time I think about it. That is what keeps me moving forward in BS2. In fact, I’m going to put a note on my refrigerator and my dashboard in my car to remind us that we are losing money every day that we stay in BS2.

I just lowered mine at first instead of stopping completely because I wasn’t comfortable with that. It was hard for me to jump in 100% right away, but once I noticed how much more I was getting each month that I could put toward debt, it made it easier. I’ll be able to make up for it pretty quickly once I reach baby step 4 and don’t have all these payments to worry about.
