How much you spend on your groceries? My groceries went up over 50% from last year, over 60% year before. Even though I flyer shop and bulk buy on sale, I can’t believe when I did my monthly/yearly groceries expense comparison.
Single mom of 2 teens, $500 in Canada.

With recent economic changes, grocery prices seem to be fluctuating for many people. I’m curious to know how much everyone typically spends on their groceries each month.

Have you noticed any significant price increases in your area? How have these changes impacted your overall budget or your choices at the store?

Additionally, are there any specific items where the price hikes have been particularly noticeable?

It would be great to hear different perspectives and maybe even some tips on how to save or adjust to the rising costs.

The teens probably eating more each year is most likely part of the reason it’s gone up.

I do extremely careful budgeting and meal planning and spend $100/week for a family of 4 not including household goods like toilet paper and soap.

Teen boys could eat $1000 a week in groceries easy! Good luck

We spend probably 1200$ a month at least… we have a lot of food allergies so buying the cheap stuff isn’t an option.

It is absolutely disgusting to me that we have to spend more on groceries than we do for our house payment.

Ours has gone up too. I’ve noticed that if I “loosen” the reigns, it’s a million times faster for grocery spending to get out of control.

I was making so much from scratch while working ao much that I burned out badly. Good luck finding a way forward.

I tried baking bread from scratch as it’s so much cheaper but if my family won’t eat it because it’s too soft for sandwiches I gave up.

For me, my 17 year old son, and my partner, and our 22lb dog…it’s about $750-800/mo. That includes toiletries, cleaning products, laundry stuff, and dog food/treats.

Most of our meals are home cooked. We shop at Sam’s Club once a month + Walmart and ALDI weekly.

As much as possible, I buy marked down meats (always fresh, never “iffy”) and then portion and vacuum seal at home to keep our freezer stocked.

The key is to be at the store by 8am for Walmart and at opening for ALDI.

Just this week, I was able to get ground beef for $2/lb and thin sliced sizzle steak for under $4/lb.

In Europe is the same, everything is MUCH more expensive.
                      We spend too much…

But eating low quality food is bad for health in a long run, so….

I have a 10 and 12 year old in the house. It’s RIDICULOUS I don’t even want to talk about it

My grocery budget includes paper products, laundry and dish soap, hygiene and vitamins, and we spend that (on average) every month for 2 seniors.

We don’t buy much meat as my husband hunts.

We live in a small town in Alberta with only 1 grocery store, although we make a few stock up runs a year to the city 150 km away.

I eat mostly meat. On sale I can get ground beef for $2.50 lb, chicken for about $1.30 lb.

I usually go for 2-3 lbs a day, but sometimes I’ll eat a half dozen eggs and just a pound or so of meat.

So depending on the month I spend $ 150-225.
The only other thing I buy is coffee.
