Hello lovely people…..a couple of weeks ago I bought a pair of black denim jeans from M&Co during their closing down sales, the label says made in Bangladesh and when I put them on after a few hours I could smell this awful smell which I discovered were coming from the jeans, I washed them using fabric fresheners and soap powder and the smell did not go, I washed them again and still no success, tried Fabric freshener as well but the smell is awful, unfortunately I can’t take them back as all the M&Co stores are now closed…

      any suggestions?

they are brand new so don’t want to bin them.

Hang outside, let them get rained on and re dried, the fabric freshener won’t help.

I had some from bon marche znd they were the same, something to do with the dye they told me, it does go eventually.

Add vinegar to the wash and leave outside on the line for a couple of days maybe the sun and fresh air will remove the smell it removes every stain of clothes that treating and washing alone can’t.

I had a pair of jeans from.

Primark once that had a smell to them, it was like a burning smell, no amount of washing made it go, no one said they could smell it, but I could every time I put them on.

It’s just the black dye honestly wash them then leave them on the washing line ( even if it rains for a few days ) rewash with unstoppables and dry inside ! Then wear and wash takes a few goes.

I’m sure I read somewhere about putting jeans in the freezer rather than washing or something.

^perhaps try the outside/rain/re-dry that others have mentioned then Finish off in the freezer.

(No idea if it actually does anything btw!)

I’m sure it’s something 2 do with the black dye…..every pair of black jeans I have brought (no matter were frm) always have that same strong smell. The smell only goes once the colour start fading.

This is the chemical they use to stop the dye from bleeding out, it gets worse during shipping because the garment is in a plastic bag on the sea for 4-6 weeks. The best bet is to air them out outside for a day or two and then wash again. Alternatively M&Co have been bought out by Yours clothing so you could contact them.

Try white vinegar and bicarb great for getting rid of smells everywhere.
