This is probably a dumb question, but I’m hoping someone has done it before and can point me in the right direction. We started our kids’ 529s as soon as we could and didn’t do as much research as we should have.
I procrastinated so bad on moving them. Kids are now 4 and 6 and I want to move them from Ameriprise (high fees!!!) and Fidelity (I started the second kid there to avoid the high fees but the fund options aren’t great).
I want to do a Vanguard 529 for each kid. Does anyone know how easy they are to move and if there’s a specific process? I am sure there are forms, etc. It’s on my summer to do list, but hopefully I actually get it done by the end of the calendar year.
KarenI’ve done a roll over before. Had to get it notarized. It was some paperwork but overall wasn’t so bad. If it makes a difference I’m in CT with the state’s program.
Went from fidelity institutional to regular fidelity.
RoyMost 529 plans will facilitate a roll over from another plan as a part of you account set up process.
I haven’t done it but saw it as an option when I was looking at other providers over the years.
ElizabethDoes your state offer tax benefits for their 529s? If so, look at your state’s offerings. Please search the group for other options.
