Just wondering on opinions of how much is average to keep in savings not including what you would spend on updating your home.
Hubby’s job is not so reliable so that’s why I’m hesitating.
I’m afraid to spend on renovations worrying that something bad will happen.
I know everyone’s situation is different.
Just looking to get some opinions on what you keep as savings and not touch for home renovations.
ShawynaWe cash flow renovations and keep 6m of spending as a emergency fund. Our bathroom renovations have been 2k-4k depending on fixtures and if it was a full or partial gut.
We bought flooring during a pallet sell with a promo code and paid 4k for 1800sqft.
WendyIf your husband’s job is not that reliable, I would try for 6 months of salary in an emergency “do not touch” high yield savings account. That way, you won’t have to panic if he loses his job. If your kitchen, bathroom and floors are operable, I wouldn’t touch existing savings to renovate – maybe try to put your tax return money or set up a separate savings account for house renovations.
MartyWe try to always keep at least 6 months emergency fund for living expenses and 6 months food and water supply.
From time to time that fluctuates depending on if we need to use some of that one month or another, but we are also doing a house flip and have a rental so that’s why it fluctuates for us.
