I’m US-based at the moment, but am currently looking at ways to “hack” things like tax residency and healthcare. Most of the advice I get is to leave the US again (which is our goal, just not possible at the moment).
CrisI left the US in 2019, and my business is freelanced based (self employed). I’ve lived among 18 countries so far and visited an additional 18 or so.
I actually grew up nomadic so I lived all over the Us, moving every 9-12 months. Twice I owned homes for a couple years but traveled a lot. The last several years I lived in the Us, I was spending 90k to 120k, annually. Now I average 43k annual spending, living like a Queen, and utilizing geoarbitrage, FEIE tax exclusion, nominal cost world wide health insurance, minimalism, etc. … pairing all of that with increased income from growing my business and overall decreased expenses, I was able to save radically and invest. I reached my CoastFIRE number much faster too.
I love living around the world. I learn so much and have met the most amazing people. Once you get into the Nomad and Expat circles, you’ll realize there’s a ton of us out here.
Feel free to reach out and ask any questions.
KrystalMoved to Mexico two years ago, bought a 4 bedroom home for 55K, and our monthly bills are way under $1k/mo while making about 8-10K/mo. We’re using the money right now to travel the world and enjoy life before our youngest leaves the nest in two years.
Then we’ll refocus on the retirement aspect as life is short and these years are the most important to us.
Just finished a 107 day trip around Europe and we’re back home to recharge and fill up the travel savings again.
