Anyone here found membership to AARP useful? Is it worth getting spammed with all kinds of marketing emails?

Is an AARP membership truly worth it, even with the influx of marketing emails?

I’m considering joining to take advantage of potential discounts, resources, and other benefits, but I’m a bit concerned about the volume of promotional content that may come with it.

For those who are members, have you found the perks outweigh the minor annoyance of extra emails?

Are there specific discounts or services that make the membership particularly valuable for you?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

I use it for cruise gift cards. It gives me 10 percent off all our families cruises

I’ve saved hundreds of dollars on vacations by buying AARP gift cards.

FYI for others… AARP isn’t just for seniors (like I’d assumed). Anyone can join, and the vast majority of deals and discounts are available to all ages.

Hotel discounts as well, like Choice and Wyndham, typically in the 10-15% range.

Very useful! I’ve saved a lot on various purchases because of the discount.

I don’t get a ton of emails, but I think it’s because I updated email preferences on their site.

I think it costed me like $10-20? I’ve made that back several times since joining

Also, I think it’s good to support them to support their lobbying efforts.

Not getting political at all – and I don’t follow every last position they take – but I do know they are active fighting for legislation that protects seniors from scammers, social security and so forth, both state and federal.

That seems like it’s worth a few bucks to me And the magazine is a light, entertaining read!

We got a good deal on a car rental once, but that’s all I have done through them. I will probably use it more over the years.

                      I think I paid $20 total for a 5-6 year membership.

Absolutely yes, even more so if you jump on the discounted membership prices they offer from time to time, like Memorial Day and Black Friday sales.

AARP works with The Hartford to provide auto insurance at a senior rate.
