My little girls (7 & 4) absolutely love American Girl Dolls. Well, they have the Target and Walmart “American Girl” dolls.
Every where they go they carry these dolls and call them American Girl Dolls.
They really want to take a trip to the American Doll cafe but is it embarrassing to bring these not authentic American Girl dolls to the cafe?
Has anyone brought the Our Generation and My Life dolls to the American Girl cafe?
Should I break it to them that they aren’t the real American Girl dolls?
Please be kind.
These are the ones we can afford. Thanks.
TamiWe took other dolls in. Noone is going to notice or care. Go have fun and make memories
HannahOnly a monster would call out children for having off brand dolls
MaryClaireWe were in Chicago several years ago and went to the AG store and restaurant.
If you don’t bring a doll they supply a chair that hooks onto the table and let you borrow a doll for the meal.
And never be embarrassed by Our Generation or AG knock offs I had 4 daughters that never actually owned a real AG doll until we found a couple at garage sales and my daughters survived just fine.
QuianaNothing to be embarrassed about. Go and enjoy.
CherylPersonally I’d skip that trip. Husband took a granddaughter and it’s a money making machine.
Beauty shop for dolls, expensive toy items, food, etc.
Let them have a special party at home with friends, their dolls, photo booth, etc.
MadelineWho cares what anyone thinks. Let them be kids and be happy n proud that you got them their favorite dolls
LaurenHonestly there’s so many dolls now with AG that most people probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference anyway so I wouldn’t be embarrassed to bring them
RamihaJust an FYi, you can’t take these dolls to the salon. They won’t do their hair.
I assume you could bring them to the cafe although the I never did.
RemingtonNothing to be embarrassed about! As a girly who grew up on the real AG dolls, I absolutely love and adore all of the Target brand dolls and sets.
I actually think a lot of their play sets are better and cuter than AG ones, especially nowadays.
I’ll be buying the Target brand for my daughter once she’s old enough!
DinaI don’t think it matters. It’s a really fun experience to have tea there.
Just brace yourself for the prices there, all the accessories and clothes are crazy expensive.
When I bring my daughter (7) there, she brings her own money (birthday Christmas etc).
She spends carefully but gets disappointed sometimes when she sees something like the remote control car that was $250, and she can’t afford it.
I let her know we can get something very similar at target and she understands.
TeresaSomeone asked this in a local group I’m in. The store said any doll is welcome to come to the store, eat in the restaurant, but not to the hair salon, they only style American girl doll hair.
SherryThe only difference is on the back of the neck it said American girl. My grand daughter has American girl dolls and the my generation doll and you can’t really tell the difference unless you look at the back of its neck.
Rebeccait should be fine! no one is going to be inspecting your dolls- they make “custom” ones so if they don’t see any at the store that look like theirs, just say they’re custom!
I was fortunate enough growing up that my mom got me my own AG doll but all my accessories were knock offs but im 29 now & AG is still some of my best childhood memories.
your girls will remember you making it happen, no matter what your version of an AG doll is.
especially your older one will remember the magic of the AG cafe & hanging out with mom & sister.
don’t worry about if it’s the real thing or not, don’t put that stress on yourself
ChristyThe staff doesn’t care because you are there spending your time and dollars with them
