we are thinking of switching from Verizon to mint mobile and was curious what the service is like for traveling?
Reliable? My work takes me all over the country and occasionally international.
Any pitfalls that aren’t obvious?
I did use the search and it seems most are happy with the service but the latest post I came across was from last year.
Thank you.
I’ll check out some of the alternatives too.
EricI was with mint for a year but didn’t have good luck traveling. Especially Alaska.
I ended up going to visible wireless and now just switched to us mobile on Verizon.
Really liking us mobile
CharlotteWhat about Visible? Should provide the same coverage as Verizon
ArianeThey use T mobile network so checking for t mobile coverage in areas you regularly travel would tell you if there is going to be an issue.
KristyI have a work phone with Verizon and switched my personal phone to Mint about two years ago.
So far the areas where I haven’t had service with Mint also haven’t had service with Verizon.
(Amish country in Ohio, rural upstate New York, pretty much all of Vermont except Burlington).
TonyI travel for work frequently and have also used their “Minternational’ plan.
Everything works great and I will never go back to a plan that’s more than $20/mo again.
TonyVisible wireless is owned by Verizon a simple $25 a month for truly unlimited service whereas mint actually caps at 35 gigs.
And you get unlimited hotspot with visible.
I’ll leave a review video under this comment that I did
DavidI’m a nomad and have lived all over the States. Unless Im in the middle of nowhere camping mint has had service.
Maybe 2 times have I had issues in super rural areas.
In places like that, no one has service.
ChrisVerizon has the largest 4G network but T-Mobile (Mint) has the largest 5G network.
There are more dead zones when I travel with my Mint (5G network) which doesnt cover as much area.
I’m okay with it though.
Just be aware when traveling that 4G networks are much more extense and a longer range
ArunI switched from T-Mobile to Mint 3 months ago. Service at home (CA) has been as good as before.
Used 10-day Minternational passes in July in London, Oxford and many cities in Croatia.
It worked very well everywhere.
LynResearch security features. I’m considering leaving Mint/T-Mobile and going back to Verizon for this reason.
MaryDuring July trip to Paris, Madrid and Barcelona with Mint’s roaming package I had very unreliable service.
My daughter (ATT int’l add on) had no issues at all.
It was pretty useless in Paris.
Spain was just a little better.
I would reach out to someone in their customer service department to ask before switching over.
GoskaMy daughter is in East Lansing MI and Mint doesn’t work very well there
JillT-Mobile has a network pass that lets you try their service for free while you keep your current carrier & number.
You can toggle back & forth between carriers.
I’m in Ohio. T-Mobile had great data service but cell service (phone calls) was bad.
I travel for work throughout the state and I generally could not make calls unless I was in a decent size city.
My work phone is AT&T and my personal cell has Verizon & both out performed T-Mobile for calls but T-Mobile won for data.
LynnYou might try Red Pocket. The prices are similar to mint, but you can choose Verizon or AT&T service.
In my experience, both have better service in rural areas than T mobile.
I try to avoid “no service”.
RobinI have Mint and have problems in rural areas and even in town have to turn off WiFi to get connected.
I’ve had for 3 years.
JasmineI switched from AT&T to Mint earlier this year. Coverage in US cities has been great.
I’ve not tried it in rural areas yet, but I hear it’s pretty terrible when you’re out in the middle of nowhere.
AT&T had amazing coverage all over the world, but I’ve not yet had any international travel since switching to Mint, so no data points on that yet.
WhitneyFor me it’s fine in cities. Service is spotty in the Nevada deserts, middle of nowhere type places.
TeresaI travel and ton and switched from Verizon to Mint a couple of years ago.
I have had great service.
Occasional weak spots in really remote areas, but no different than my experience with Verizon!
CydneyThe only places I can remember that I didn’t have service were Wisconsin (occasional dead spots in hilly areas) and Alaska (abysmal service nearly everywhere we went).
In the last 24 months we’ve been to Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Missouri, Illinois, NYC, Minnesota (not rural), Wisconsin, Colorado (Denver only), Alaska, California, Nevada, Puerto Rico, and South Carolina.
I may be missing one or two. Other than the above mentioned 2 areas, our service was fine in those places.
JoleneWe use US Mobile, which uses the Verizon network. We pay $15 per month for unlimited data.
When we are overseas, we buy SIM cards (or eSIM) for international coverage.
