I’m on the hunt for a cell phone plan that caters specifically to the needs of a senior individual in my life who uses their cell phone quite sparingly. With many carriers and plans on the market, finding one that aligns with minimal usage, while also being cost-effective, can be a challenge.
For those familiar with the telecommunications market or who have navigated similar needs for seniors: Are there particular carriers or plans you’d recommend that offer affordable rates for occasional cell phone users? Whether it’s pay-as-you-go, special senior discounts, or low-cost monthly plans, I’d value recommendations that ensure connectivity without an exorbitant price tag.
SadieConsumer Cellular is very good.
JeanieWe have Tmobile senior plan.
CelesteMint Mobile. 15.00/month, pay annually.
RickMint mobile. Uses T-Mobile towers. It’s prepaid but works out to $15 a month. Works great for me.
AlexisI use tracfone services. I just got 500 minutes (extended from my original) for $10.I use my phone basically to call my daughter or home when I am out and emergencies.
I think I got the phone from black Friday deals on Amazon.
My grocery store sells additonal gift cards for minutes and I get gas points for them but with 500 minutes – cusomter service did that for me – I wont need any cards for a long time.
Don’t miss: What internet company you all have, and if you like/dislike it?
LisaDepending on the area…I’d opt for a plan using a strong network that has good signal in your area…
For example, if Verizon has the strongest signal in your area. I’d look to visible, Xfinity Mobil who use their network…or prepay on Verizon..
Or hello Mobil is $5/month… or mint Mobil. That uses t Mobil towers…
All the major carriers have mvno…figure out what major network is best in your area and find out who their mvno is (kinda like the no name brand of the major network)
ShirleyConsider a tracphone and load a one year card prepaid. Did this for my elderly mum and it worked great. Minutes carry over if not used and variety of phone types .
RiaI like the Trac Phone available at Walmart. Purchase a card for monthly service or yearly. Unlimited call/text under twenty dollars. I got a flip phone for $9 seven years back, and served me fine.
I’m unsure if you can use an existing phone but worth checking out.
CarolMint Mobile… $15.00/month and have never dropped a call or had bad service in over a year. Always had terrible service with AT&T.
JaniceDo you live in an area with a Kroger or a Fry’s? iWireless has a program that gives you points from grocery shopping that goes towards your phone bill. They use at&t lines so the service is reliable.
БиатрисLook for free phones for seniors, or pay as you go. Like my mom I had on 1000 minutes for $100.00. Or pay 15.00 a month for mint mobile, unlimited: data, text, phone (data slows down after 5gb per month.
It is the same 5g network as T-Mobile.
IreneMy husband found a government based deal that’s based on income. If your senior is below the income level they might be eligible for free phone service. He said we had the choice of either phone service for one phone or Wi-Fi , but not both. I get the phone service.
They said I can have service as long as they have Federal funding. Sorry but since I don’t get billing we can’t remember the web address. Try checking the web for free cell phone service for low income seniors.
StephanieIf you only need a phone to talk and or maybe text. T-mobile used to to have a pay as you go plan years ago $100 for 1000min and they were good for a year.
I currently have metro-pcs and I think they have a $25/month l plan unlimited talk/text don’t know if it has internet.
