Help! I accidentally 3x the baking soda in a cake! What to do to save it? Was already in oven when I realized.
Have you ever accidentally added too much baking soda to a cake?
Is there any way to salvage or balance the taste after baking?
Any tips for masking the flavor, pairing it with something, or repurposing the cake would be greatly appreciated!
Looking forward to hearing your suggestions.
LanaI honestly don’t know if it can be fixed, but you could always just add 2x the amount of additional ingredients and make enough batter for three cakes.
EmilyI gotta be honest. Now I want to see what the cake would like like of made as is
LindaIf it’s still just in the dry ingredients, do what Lana said & then just use 1/3 of the dry ingredients for this cake & you have the other to put in bags for the next 2 cakes.
LouiseYou could triple the rest of the ingredients and make 3 cakes or one cake and a bunch of cupcakes. Once baked you can freeze.
Christmas is close you could put the extra into a bake sale for charity.
MaribethIf you won’t triple the recipe try adding vinegar to neutralize it.
Add 2 parts vinegar to every part of baking soda.If you add extra 2 tsp of baking soda, add 4 tsp vinegar.
TammyAdd more ingredients leave out soda just twice as much cake mix no soda at all
LaAdd vinegar or lemon juice. Look up how to substitute baking powder with baking soda for quantity
GwenDo what my mom did when she messed up her scones and make everyone eat it anyway
