Parents who have chosen private school for your kids, delaying the attainment of FIRE, tell me about your decision. Are you happy with it? What factored into your decision?

My kids went to a private school in lieu of daycare when they were 4. Realized that we wouldn’t be able to afford for both of them to go as they got older it got more expensive.

We retired young so that we could homeschool them ourselves. To me it feels as though they are getting a private school education for much less cost (under $1000/year total).

This doesn’t include the family trips we take together (world-schooling). They get plenty of social time with their friends through homeschool groups and sports.

So, I guess my point is that you can still retire early and give your kids a great education at home if you’re up for it.

Private school was the best investment we ever made – we invested in our children and the quality of our family life. We don’t regret one penny spent on their educations.

Our local public schools are highly ranked, but couldn’t match the quality that the private schools offered. My kids have had amazing experiences that have shaped the people they are – international trips, service and project based learning, and an education that did not involve “teaching to a test” or any arbitrary standards.

Yes, it set our retirement back. But the investment in our children was worth it.

I sent my son to Biliteracy school in San Jose CA, not prviate school but you know Bay Area is super expensive comparing to all area of the country wide.

Yes, it delays my FIRE so bad.

Since my son is in TWBI Spanish program K-12, he can take state court certified interpreter by the time he is 18 years old. He can earn at least $90K/year with medical insurance & tuition paid to go to college without flipping burger. This is the best investment I have ever planned out for a high school graduate child.

Yes, very happy with it. I want my children to be raised with my family’s values.
