Will need it catered, and want to have a buffet. We live in a small town. None of the caterers offer much variety. We are on a budget. It will be senior adults.
I want something very appetizing and kinda of different. please include recipes if you can.
Thank you..
HeidiWhat kind of event? I say go with brinner, if appropriate! Pancakes, eggs, sausages, juice, coffee, and a pastry.
SaraWhat time of year is the event? Will it be a sit down or browse and graze? Lunch or dinner? You have many options: taco or fajita bar with refried beans and rice; home made soups, salads and bread, six foot sub sandwich with chips, pizza with salad; spaghetti, meatballs and pasta; barbecue sausage, chicken, and brisket with ranch beans, coleslaw and potato salad.
SaraI would be careful about sodium content with some of these suggestions. They all sound delicious but ham, taco bar, sub sandwiches are all very high in sodium which van be dangerous for seniors. Chili, turkey breast, salmon, even meat balls or a baked potato bar can either be prepared with little sodium or offered with many low sodium toppings.
Also, when I ran a senior group the most popular lunch was a rotisserie quarter chicken with mashed potatoes and corn bread. We specifically requested that the chicken was prepared with lower sodium.
MaryAs a well over senior, I would love french fries ( can’t peel them anymore ) and Chicken nuggets with Honey sauce or ketchup.
RuthAs a former caterer I have questions. Are these seniors closer to 60 or closer to 80 years old? Lunch or dinner event? What is the occasion? What type of facility will the event be held in?
JessicaWe had a Mediterranean Deli make us an awesome hummus, pita, falafel, salad, and gyro bar for our wedding. It was delicious.
You could easily DIY a version of this with Walmart and Aldi foods.
RitaHaystacks! It’s like a walking taco bar on steroids.
Taco meat, black beans, rice, crushed Doritos, cheese sauce, fresh tomatoes diced, lettuce, sour cream and salsa, and a sweet French dressing. You pile it up on a plate and eat it as a stack, and it has all the food groups! Add a dessert of your choice and you’re done.
If I was feeding a group, I’d put the meat and beans in an electric roaster, parboiled rice in another roaster, and make a 6 qt crockpot of cheese sauce, (start with a white sauce of butter, flour and milk, and add american cheese), then all your other ingredients are cold. Makes a beautiful buffet.
