It.Is best To keep The heating Just warm enough to feel comfortable in thick clothes.

With rising energy costs and environmental concerns, many people are looking for ways to conserve energy in their homes.

One approach is to lower the heating a few degrees, just enough to stay warm while wearing cozy layers like sweaters or blankets.

What do you think about this idea? Is it a practical solution for saving energy, or do you think it compromises comfort too much? Have you tried it in your own home, and if so, how did it work out?

I like a cooler house. It’s funny how 78°F is hot in the summer and cool in the winter.

I am frugal in other areas to be comfortable and happy in my own home. I am NOT happy of if I have to wear heavy clothes to stay warm.

I live in the deep south. I turn the heat on only when it’s extremely cold, for us, in the morning.

After that it’s long sleeves, throws and a space heater as needed.

I like to be warm but I’m frugal too. I dress warm long pants shirt with long sleeves plus a sweater or I wear my big fluffy bathrobe most of the time. Lol socks and slippers.

But when I’m doing projects I let it get even cooler as I’m staying warm from moving around.

I burn wood and get close to the stove too and it’s a lot cooler near windows.

I cover up with a blanket while lounging around., I like 23 or 24 c for comfort but in winter some days it’s only 20 in here.

I let it go down to 15 at night.

I have arthritis flare ups and I’ll warm it up in here to feel better sometimes put a space heater in next to me.

Also use a heating pad instead and stay in bed saves from cranking the heat.

We used to keep our house at 59 F at night, and about 64 F in the day.
But I am over that. I would rather save money in other ways.

I always followed this and kept the house cool until my arthritis got so bad. Cold actually hurts.

I pay to keep the house at 70 degrees during the winter and am comfortable, During the summer I keep the temperature at 78.

I feel that I can breathe better when I keep the house cooler. Between 65-68 degrees

I keep a heated blanket on the couch & the bed. I only need to warm my body, not the whole apartment (I live alone).

I wear a knit cap, half finger gloves, warm pants and shirt, and socks and slippers. So toasty.

I love having the temperature at 65 or lower. My husband does not. We compromise at 67 or 68.

I like 73 in the summer and 75 in the winter. Not much of a change.

I have to keep my house warm enough that the pipes don’t freeze.

I don’t like to be cold. I’m fine with the temp at 79 in the summer, but I don’t like it below 70 in the winter.

So, I’m willing to spend more to be comfortable.

I do try to be aware and push it a bit though.

When I get cold, my joints get so stiff that moving gets hard. I sweat through summers, I’ve earned a winter where my fingers still work.

Ok, but WHO is going to convince my tween to take OFF their hoodie in the 90° summer but never wear anything but a T-shirt in the dead of winter. I am like …

I know you have a closet full of hoodies. Those aren’t just for summer, you know.

                                    Make it make sense.

Nope! Medical conditions mean my and my husband’s fingers etc. do not work well in the cold.

I am frugal but not to the point I’m wearing winter gloves while trying to slice an onion.

I will work more to have enough for proper heating. What we do though is sleep in our living room (which has the thermostat) so it’s the warmest.

Our upstairs gets whatever temp the heat turns off at on its 73 degree daytime and 70 degree nighttime setting.
