Dental plans vs dental insurance?
I recently learned my employer provides medical insurance but not dental insurance
.
Should I get dental insurance or should I sign up for dental coverage through the office. I’m going to aspen dental next month.I hate the dentist but i need the most effective dental coverage.
BrendaAspen dental is a rip off—
By the time I left their office they said I needed $12,000 worth of work plus monthly treatment for gum disease—Went to another dentist and he said poppycock, that my teeth and gums were in great condition…
MichelleAspen Dental was very happy to sell my husband WAY more than what he needed. For less than $300 he went to a local dentist & had everything done.
Aspen Dental wanted several thousand dollars & a lot of work he didn’t need. Buyer beware.
LynnAspen is incredibly expensive. If you have a teaching university nearby, see if you can get an appointment there. They offer cheaper service because there will be students doing the work.
They have teachers in the top of their profession supervising.
I have heard nothing but praise from people who use them.
ShyreAspen has been crooked in our area. I don’t know if it’s everywhere or not but their pricing is deceptive.
SarahDental insurance in most cases barely covers anything. We get cleanings and basic fillings for “free” other then that nothing is covered, just had to pay $1800 for a root canal and crown for my husband..
KathyIf your going to Aspen get ready to get your pockets cleaned out for many years.
SharonStay away from Aspen Dental!! They will dollar you to the hilt and you will get very bad dentistry!
NeshaDental insurance doesn’t usually offer much return if you have to pay for it yourself. Better to set up your own account and put some $in there every month.
JodyDentist that are part of a franchise are noticeably more expensive. We were going to one in our area and we charged $88 for oral hygiene instructions each time we had a cleaning.
Which they insisted everyone should have 4 times a year.
We now go to a private practice and are much happier.
AmyWe don’t have dental insurance, but have found it’s cheaper for us to just cash pay for cleanings every 6 months, and keep up on our oral health than it is to get dental insurance that will cover very little.
KathiDon’t go to Aspen Dental. They should be banned from the profession.
RobSign up for a dental discount plan at DentalPlans .com
There are no waiting periods, deductibles to meet, or out of pocket maximums. It works like a Costco membership on a fee schedule for everything.
I would not go to Aspen Dental. They are a large chain.
You are much better off going to a smaller family run dental practice.
DiamondAspen dental is full of dental students. They are overpriced and they overcharge
JacquelineWe go to Mexico for dental. $8k implant was 500. Also got white filings and cleaning and teeth bleaching. Also, botox because dentists are good with injections
JacWe get our dental in Mexico. US trained dentists. Got my veneers here and other stuff
Make it a med tourism visit
TifaniAspen is horrible. Call around to local dentists. You could also look into dental schools.
BethI have delta dental. Call them and get an estimate. I have the same coverage as I did when I worked at a hospital. 35.00 dollars a month.
DanielleI have Delta Dental through my employer and I pay 20% of all work done. Cleanings are “free” every six months WITH x rays and a panoramic x ray.
Maybe we just got lucky on the plan my employer picked but personally it’s not bad for me.
MaryPlease rethink your decision to visit Aspen and find a local general dentist. Corporate offices like Aspen are often(but not always) into quotas and are often high sell.
As a dental professional, I have seen it way too many times.
Patients are charged outrageous fees for services not needed.
Please be careful.
JackieMy neighbor got his free cleaning and X-rays for uninsured patients at Aspen and they presented him with a list of $7000 work.
He also went to another dentist in six months (took him that long to get an appointment) and ask what work was necessary. Bill was $700.
Get established with a dentist because they’re getting scarce.
Good dental hygiene is important. We don’t have dental insurance so I just save monthly to have the funds when we have 6 month appointments.
Same with eyeglasses, never had eye care insurance so I’m used to paying for glasses.
You’re still working so you could have an HSA for pre tax funds to pay medical expenses.
JenniferI took out a plan with Delta when I went onto Medicare. They had a cap of $1200 a year and wouldn’t cover crowns until after a waiting period of a year.
This was some time ago but I would check their yearly cap & waiting periods.
I finally dropped them because it was less expensive to put the money into a savings account earmarked for dental.
LoriAspen is a total rip off. They will ruin your teeth & gums. Please, please go somewhere else!!!
Took my husband there, worst choice, but was an emergency.
They literally did nothing but take 12 xrays and pan…I was a dental assistant, no one needs 12 xrays, AND a pan.
Dentist never put gloves on, looked at xrays, said I can’t help you. You need all your teeth pulled. We left. Another dentist the next day. Complete opposite!!!
Plus his insurance paid Aspen 100%…they collected from insurance, now have me in collections billing me the same amount they were paid by insurance! Ive told them, mailed them proof.
Said they don’t have records. I sent them all the records! Still sent me to collections. Sent same info to collection agency.
Haven’t heard from them in a month…we will see! KEEP ALL YOUR RECEIPTS!
