What are thoughts on fill coverage insurance vs liability? I have 2015 and not sure if I need to keep paying for full coverage.
I’m debating whether to keep full coverage or switch to liability-only insurance for my 2015 car in California.
My vehicle is in good condition, and I’m trying to balance the costs of insurance with the actual value and potential risks of the car.
What factors should I consider when making this decision?
For those who have been in a similar situation, what did you choose, and how did it work out for you?
Your insights would be greatly appreciated!
AnnetteSomeone said the other day that their line was when the Blue Book value of the car is less than full coverage insurance.
I thought it was a good answer.
If I got it right and understood.
AngelI always have full coverage. No matter how old my vehicle is. I live were there is no fault insurance
ErnestI was told collision covers anything that is your fault. Comprehensive covers tree limb, deer or hail etc.
I only have comprehensive and liability which I have to carry…
I hit a deer and they paid for my car.
I would only carry collision for a new car
JackieAlways keep comprehensive if you do drop full coverage, your car will still be covered if hail, deer , fire or theft strikes.
Nothing like paying a tow bill on a stolen vehicle if it is recovered.
JameelahI have a 2009 and a 2010 suv and truck both have full coverage because my area is high risk for accident and many non insured drivers.
I would rather have the safety net if something were to happen.
HattieAlways have full coverage. Think about the scenario where you’re in an accident and need medical, rental and a new car.
Also consider if you are sued and there is a verdict against you that exceeds your coverage.
As an attorney who does personal injury in your state.
JudiKeep the full coverage. I live in California also there are so many accidents.
I had an accident a couple of years ago the guy only had liability insurance.
My car was totaled. What a mess!
LindsayI have a 15 and keep full because it’s only $30/m. For me that is worth it.
HeatherCan you replace your car without debt? If not, then keep your collision and comprehensive
MarilynYou need to know the approximate replacement value of your car and whether you can afford to or need to replace it if it’s stolen or wrecked.
Full coverage on a old car in poor condition might not be worth the premium.
Or it might be well worth the cost.
For example, I have full coverage on my 2014 Prius.
I’m the original owner.
The car is in very good shape and has been well cared for.
So, to me it’s worth caring for and insuring.
RachelFor home or car insurance? For car insurance I took collision off once. Someone hit me & the insurance wouldn’t pay out.
I put it back on.
Even if my vehicle is totalled and my payout isn’t that much, they can get the other insurance to pay for a rental car etc.
JillThere’s a LOT to consider in this decision. As an insurance claims agent, I can tell you states vary wildly on different coverages.
MaureenCoverage isnt just about the car. It prevents people from suing you against your future earnings should they be medically severely hurt.
KellyHow much is your car worth? Could you come up with that much cash yourself if something happens to your car?
LoriIf you own a house or other assets they could go after them if you’re at fault in an accident.
Keep full coverage
