Should I leave $13k in my 401k when leaving a toxic job, or roll it over?

Leaving my toxic job soon and was wondering if there’s any benefit to leaving my $13k in the workplace 401k?

If not, I was thinking of rolling it over to my Roth IRA and/or HYSA.

      Advice is appreciated

Unless it is post tax 401k, there will be taxes due putting it in a Roth. But I’d roll it over to an IRA.

You can’t put it in your HSA.

I left mine with my employer as the plan choices are good, the fees are low and there’s no requirement to move it.

you can’t roll it over to a hysa. You could roll it over to a traditional IRA and then convert it into a Roth.

Or you could wait and see.

if you could roll it over into your new job’s 401k.

Keep in mind that we generally get better investment funds through our IRA.

I would rollover somewhere else probably to an Ira so you have more control

Just roll it into a traditional rollover IRA account. It’s pretty easy to do. If you don’t, the fees will probably reduce it to nothing over time.

In many cases money left in 401k (ERISA) is protected from creditors and lawsuits.

This is something people don’t talk about here but is worth knowing.

You would be best to roll it to a rollover traditional IRA or your new workplace 401K.
