I recently got hired into the AGR program in the National Guard so I’m effectively active duty military now which comes with a great retirement in 15 years.
Should I sell my 401k from Amazon or just keep it for retirement?
I could use the money to fund an emergency fund or do home improvements.
Thanks.
ScottNo. Roll it into a personal Ira if you want but don’t take the 30% hit
SandyNo. You will pay ordinary income taxes and a penalty tax for taking it out of a 401(k) before age 59.5.
You can certainly roll it out to an IRA if you want more control over how to invest it, but could also make sense just to keep it there for now.
ShiaoRoll it over to account you control. Do you get Amazon shares? Keep that
JonTransfer it to the TSP… the defined benefit from the military retirement is real, but you’ll enjoy rtmt a lot more if you also contribute to the TSP
DarrellAbsolutely roll that into a ira invested and don’t touch it. Don’t even think about it. Hot
SteveKeep it for retirement. Why did you put money into it in the first place?
Worst case, consider it your emergency fund after you roll it into an IRA if you ever have an actual emergency.
RobRoll to the TSP or an IRA. There’s no reason you mentioned that would say sure, take the 10% penalty and drain th account.
