I have a small pop up camper that I love. It hosts family when they come home and is used for kid sleepovers. My insurance rates recently increased with added vehicles.

I’m trying to decide if I should sell the camper, or bite the bullet and just pay the insurance each month.

      Money is getting tight.

Do they have an option to have storage insurance if you are not actively using it?

Surrender the tags, drop the insurance, and use it exactly as you are.

Laws may be different in each state but here (PA) you can turn the lisence (registration) plate in and shut off the insurance.

That wouldnt work if you do want to use it on the road of course but if not I see no reason you can’t shut it off

If that’s the only use, and it sits empty all other times, I would sell it.

When I checked with my insurance company for any trailer, liability is covered by the towing vehicle.

Insurance is only needed for theft, maybe if a tree hits it although I wonder if a tree hit it on your property maybe it would be covered by homeowners.

We live in Oregon, but check with your agent to find out what coverage you are getting.

If you could live with the loss if something happened to it in the yard Id pull the insurance. Do you travel with it?

Unless it’s financed and you’re required to have it. Have you shopped around? You can buy a separate policy for just the camper and pay it off in one shot, if you’re able to.

I love our camper traveling and at home so I’m not voting for selling it.

We get such little pleasures in life these days, this is a small one I’d love to see you be able to keep.

I think only you can balance the convenience of having extra space for family and kids against the insurance price.

Maybe price out how much you can sell it for an add that into your decision.

Is it worth insuring if it never moves? I think if it attached ti your car it’s covered

I live in NY and my hard sided 19′ hybrid is less than $100/yr and I do tow it for camping.

If you’re not putting it on the road, drop the insurance.

If it is getting towed, it’s covered by the vehicle insurance and the extra policy should be minimal for a pop up.

I don’t think it matters as far as looking to save money. Keep it.

I’m in Ontario Canada and you don’t have to insurance a trailer if you don’t want to.

If it’s older then why insure it?

Find a broker to help you find a cheaper rate. I was advised to change insurance companies every few years.
