Should I sell my traditional IRA and Roth assets to reinvest in the total stock market, and does my former advisor still earn from these funds at Vanguard?

I broke up with my FA and moved all my funds from Ameriprise to vanguard last year. I have a traditional Ira and a Roth and a brokerage now. I’ve been contributing to my Roth and brokerage all going to total stock market from here on out.

Should I leave all the other stuff as is (in both traditional and Roth) or sell it all and reinvest it into total stock market?

It says I can’t exchange any of it bc it’s from a different firm.

Dumb question but does the financial advisor still get % from those funds even if I moved it to vanguard?

If the answer is sell it all and reinvest it to VTSAX or VTI should I sell everything at once or only the ones that are up or down etc.

      Thank you all.

You can sell/buy in the Roth without worrying about taxes.

In the brokerage, you have your consider the impact of gains, losses and how long you have owned the asset. Key is to do some tax planning so there are minimal surprises.

Exact answer to your question is impossible since we don’t know your current Plans, Holdings and Basis.

The advisor no longer gets a cut since you severed ties and moved to Vanguard.

Work on creating an investor policy statement. Once that is complete you’ll have an answer as to which stocks you should be holding.

There are no tax consequences to selling positions in a retirement account.

The FA is no longer receiving a % as there is no way for them to charge you a fee.

I wouldn’t worry about selling all the random funds in your retirement accounts and rebuying VTI or VTSAX all at once. It will all be executed at end of day. You would incur some taxes if doing this in your brokerage account. On the buy/sell page, there should also be the option of “exchange “, which allows you to sell funds and use that to buy new funds all in one step (instead of waiting until later to buy using your settlement fund).
