Should I switch to State Farm for $126/month after just getting Progressive?

I had to shop around for car insurance today. Geico wanted me to pay $222/month for full coverage for one vehicle (2 drivers: myself and my 17–year old son). That seemed a bit exorbitant, so I looked at some other companies. I settled on Progressive, which is $169/month.

Unfortunately, about an hour after I went with Progressive, State Farm emailed me a quote for $126/month. Has this happened to anyone?

I want to save as much as possible but don’t know if I should switch immediately because I literally just got the policy with Progressive today. Any advice would appreciated.

Where are you at that a 17 year old is under 400 a month?

Just be careful switching to State Farm.

We did that. They never sent in the appropriate paperwork.

Got stopped by a nice state trooper saying we had a lapse in our insurance.

State Farm raised my rates after 6 months with no claims.

Call Progressive and ask them to cancel the policy. It never hurts to ask.. you could even tell them why, they may price match.

State Farm is awful. Progressive is good about handling claims. It’s amazing that you found it so cheap with a teen driver.

I had Geico for 16 years, they raised my rates outrageously so I switched to Progressive 6 months ago. Now after 6 months with them Progressive raised my rates so I think I’ll be shopping for new insurance soon.

My sister had the same thing happen with both insurances and is now back to Geico.

Related: Just called my auto insurance company, State Farm and they don’t give discounts for retired or disabled customers but…

I just switched from Geico to Connect through Costco. It’s me with one car…also have a 16 year old about to get his license…hoping won’t be crazy to add him

Compare that quote with the one from Prog and see if it’s the same coverage. They may have quoted you super low to get your business.

Check the coverage. Some agents will unfortunately quote you the least amount because they want business and the policy sucks! They don’t always tell you that. So check what your coverages are

We had SF for our homeowner’s. It was HORRIBLE when we had a storm go through.

All my neighbors got new roofs, we had MISMATCHED patches done by the guy they said we had to use.

I’ve had two claims with Progressive (both times my car was hit when parked) and they were a dream to work with.

Proposed: I’m with Homesite by progressive now – Any suggestions on cheaper?

Check the Progressive policy for any cancelation fees. They usually charge a $50.00 cancelation fee if canceling shortly after taking it out.

I’ve heard bad things about progressive. I’d switch.

Also, you’re lucky it’s not a lot higher. My 18 year old is paying $387 a month for her full coverage insurance. They really raise the rates for teen drivers.

It’s a constant switching game consumers have to do, just to get the cheapest rates. I have been lucky and haven’t found anyone that can beat what I have, Rural Wisconsin Ins. They also have first accident/ticket forgiveness and never raised my rates, nor my son’s when he got a ticket (which I didn’t know about until I looked to see if there was anything out there that was cheaper.

However, due to my first ticket ever at age 57, due to a turbo booster I wasn’t used to in a week old new vehicle, I think I have to wait a couple more years before it’s off my record if I do want to switch.

I did find great homeowners insurance first through GEICO, who then referred me to a wholesale company, I think it’s called Travelers Insurance.

Even my lender couldn’t believe the great rate!

We had Geico nearly 20 years, when adding my teenage son in addition to already having my 20 year old son on the policy, it was way more then I could afford. Ended up going with Progressive, got double the coverage for 1/2 the cost I was paying with Geico. Kept hearing from people rates would go up with Progressive as they start low to get you in.

It’s been over a year, it renews every 6 months and so far no rate increase!!!

Haven’t had any claims yet, so can’t comment on that, but as far as rates, been very happy so far!!!
