If my retirement is in the TSP. Do you ever recommend moving the funds all from c/f/s etc into G fund temporarily if you think there is unstable market coming?
Then moving them back. Fairly young/new in this. Government employee.
With recent market volatility, I’m considering moving all my Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) funds temporarily to the G Fund for safety.
The G Fund is known for being low-risk, but I’m unsure whether this is the best strategy for long-term growth.
Should I prioritize protecting my current investments by transferring everything to the G Fund, or is it wiser to stay invested in riskier funds with potential for higher returns once the market stabilizes?
I’d love to hear thoughts from others who have experience managing their TSP in volatile markets or from those with financial expertise.
Any advice or considerations for balancing safety with growth in a TSP portfolio during times like these?
DavidNo, that’s market timing. It never works out and typically people lose out on gains because of it.
BenjaminTime in the market beats trying to time the market. You’d likely lose out on more gains being in G because timing is impossible.
MarkNo. When u buy ur favorite shoes at the mall, do u want to pay full price or get them on sale.
ErinI have my TSP in a mix of lifecycle funds and the C fund. The C fund mirrors the S&P 500 and the lifecycle funds are target retirement date funds, so it’ll automatically reallocate to different funds as you get closer to retirement
