      The 6-to-1 grocery method
The 6-to-1 grocery method provides structure to your grocery list, making shopping easier and more cost-effective.

Next time you go to the supermarket, you’ll buy six vegetables, five fruits, four proteins, three starches, two sauces/spreads and one “fun” item as a treat.

I do the 10 things list (based on the movie 10 items or less, with Morgan Freeman).

Like today I only let myself carry a basket…by limiting myself to 10 items, I achieve better control of my costs and feel less out of control, and am more mindful of how I need to use what I already have.

This wouldn’t be my way to shop. I live out in the country. I go to town maybe once a month or longer. I go with a list. I shop sales.

I go to several stores. I am buying what I am getting low on to restock that item. I also check for discounted manager deals and so on. I use store points and coupons if I have them.

I can’t buy enough fresh fruit or veg for a month do I don’t eat that way.

I eat fresh at first then as it eaten up I switch to frozen and home canned. I’m only one person and gas to go shopping more often would be two or three days of food for me.

This works for me keeping my budget lower than it’s ever been and I have so many choices of food to create meals.

I do not limit myself while shopping. If I came across an amazing deal on meat for example I may buy several pounds and freeze or can it.

It may take months to consume it but if prepped properly it will keep good for years actually. Sometimes I don’t need anything other than cream or eggs or I may crave for some lettuce.

I’ll get a friend to pick up for me or I do go without.

I freeze eggs now and cream so about the only thing I go with is lettuce a fresh tomato a cucumber that sort of thing. But I eat them all summer out of my garden.

I meal plan every Sunday and try to only buy what I need for the week’s meals, plus stocking up on whatever we’re low on (condiments, canned goods, flour, etc).

Going to the store without a specific plan for what I’m buying would cause me to spend a lot more

I buy what I am going to eat for the week. No more, no less.

I’m within 3 miles of my Neighborhood Walmart..I do about 4 planned meals at a time. I like meat from Albertsons.

This weekend, pork roast .97 a pound and a few side veggies they have on sale.
