I unplug appliances and chargers to save electricity while not being in use.
I do it to save money and space on my counters but I come to realize that this might be good practice for safety.
I’ve seen news articles of people’s homes catching on fire randomly due to items being plugged in but not in use.
One that I’ve seen a couple of times is air fryers. My intention is not to scare anyone but something to think about.
Save money and keep your home safe.
GrainneI always turn off the power point and unplug anything I’m not using
JaneI have my air fryer and kerig plugged into a power bar with a on off switch
KarenMy ex was a volunteer firefighter (he drove the truck, helped with getting hoses out and hooked up, etc, but didn’t fight fires).
He said the most common 2 things that caught fire while being plugged in but that were NOT in use when they caught fire, were coffee makers and toasters – and curling irons that had been left on accidentally were 3rd.
He said that happens a lot more than people think.
KarenI never ever considered the safety of air fryer, toaster etc. I will say I bought a new fan this summer and within two days I started smelling that it was overheating!!!!
So, I turn my fans off every time I leave!
