I had a camping trip booked for next week and it’s going to rain.
We are two people on a very limited budget that need to get away for a few days. Looking for heavily discounted last minute deals in NY/NJ/PA. Any advice?
KrisThere is a website listing mom-and-pop hotels and motels in every state. Key in “motelguide”, a period, then “com”. They may not be as booked for the date(s) that you need.
JackieCheck into cabins vs tents – during the summer usually city vs shore or mountains.
SarahYou will usually get a better rate by calling the hotel directly…
JeanWe just discovered that those hotel magazines they give out at welcome centers on major highways have really good deals. It seems (from our experience) that the hotels advertising are in the middle of renovations, but we stayed at several pretty decent places for about $70 a night, including breakfast. And you just walk in and ask if they have any rooms available. We always got a room. It’s really helpful when you don’t know how long it will be before you’ve just had it with driving and just want to get to a hotel.
JuliaI often look for specific hotels I might like to stay at in the area and then check Groupon to see if they have any deals. Otherwise Priceline, Expedia or the hotel’s website is often the best deal.
Have you ever tried staying at a retreat center or religious places (monastery/convents)? Sometimes they are pay by donation and often you can include some meals in the price of your stay if you want.
