What internet speed do you have in order to have services like YouTube tv, Roku, etc..
The income based complex my mom lives in is no lo her providing cable.
She can’t afford to keep what she has at $200. per month.
She wants something that she can watch shows that she will miss because some of them come on at the same time. Do they still sell DVR’s?
HeidiDVRS do require cable or satellite, I believe. A Roku device is cheap,, and will give her a way to access streaming services.
Netix has a special rate for low-income people.
Network TV is another matter. She may find a small modern antenna will help her find local stations.
AllisonI have gig but you absolutely do not need that. What are the options in her area? 100mbps would be more than sufficient.
Lowest in my area is 300mbps
DianeI don’t where she lives but I pay $30 a month to Cox cable and I can get everything.
JessicaFree streaming services (probably not a complete list): freevee, Tubi, Pluto, Plex, Roku, Crackle.
Also, the local library may offer access to a streaming app (and other apps).
MaryWe had a 30mbps as that’s all we could get at our other house in a rural area. It would work fine usually but if a lot of people are on phones and streaming on another tv it wouldn’t work.
Try and then go up as you need to.
BrianThe slowest internet speed that you can get will allow you to stream. HD only required 5 Mbps and 4k is 25. I believe the lowest I have seen is 100.
So just get the cheapest in the area.
If you have multiple devices connected, that will slow things down.
JeanWhere I am, there are only two options for internet, the one provided by the city, and another crappy option, Windstream.
I have a medium internet speed which is $45 a month added to my utility bill.
I have a Fire Stick, and I subscribe to Hulu and Netflix. There are many free streaming services as well.
If an antenna will work in her area, she can get local channels as well, but I can only get maybe 4 stations with an antenna and not my preferred local network affiliate.
HelenHonestly, I doubt if our speed is over 100mbps; I have two Rokus, laptop, cell joined and we stream almost every program; do have an OTA antenna but rarely use it for anything other than local news.
Service is through Kinetic/Windstream which was our landline provider, too. We’re rural so limited in choices.
Think interest alone was $60; I haven’t found any provider any lower but I keep searching. Service is good so no complaints.
LaurieI have Frndly app and I record stuff. Only thing is, the recordings do delete after so many months.
CarolI’m using T-Mobile Internet for $50 a month and it works just fine. I stream everything I do pay for Netflix and some of the things I don’t want to give up but compared to regular cable or Internet providers, it’s wonderful.
MaryI have xfinity wifi that is 300 mbpd download and 100 mbps upload and is great for streaming using my tv firestick and while using my phone.
I don’t know if a lower internet speed would work.
I am considering trying a lower speed to save $. You could try a lower speed and change it if it’s not enough.
TerriMine is up to 500 Mbp download/50 Mbps with 1.25 TB (1280 GB) data plan. I just checked mine speed and it was 294.7 DL and 28.5 UL.
There are two of us in the house and I work from home and someone is using wi-fi either on the computer, tablet or streaming movies most of the day/night.
We usually use under 300GB per month.
You may also want to check into free/low cost wi-fi for seniors and also a digital TV antenna.
