I am a 23 year old grad student, who is also a bartender. I would like to open a vanguard index roth ira- but I don’t have 3000.
I am thinking of opening a vanguard brokerage account, and investing a $100 a week, until I reach $3000.
Any advice on what stock to invest in.
Ty!
SandyWhy not open the Roth at fidelity? You can buy vanguard etf’s there for no charge and I don’t believe there is a minimum investment to open the account.
AnthonyI am also a 23 year old grad student. I opened my Roth in 2023. I have a minute of VOO, QQQM, SCHD, VXUS. This gives enough diversity of small cap big cap, international stock and dividends through schd.
Reinvest the dividends too!
I would try to contribute to the Roth before the brokerage account obviously because if the tax benefits!
Andrewrobinhood fidelity chase all allow fractional etf purchasing
JuleYou can open a Roth IRA with Fidelity and fund it with FXAIX, it is also a total stock market fund that tracks the S&P 500.
There’s no minimum to start it.
MilesCreate a diversified portfolio with some balance.
Because your 23, and have about 35-40 years till you retire, you can and should put 50% into aggressive growth with a focus on tech like ‘QQQM’.You can also consider a FANG Index ‘FNGS’ which is made up of META, TSLA, NVDA, AMD, NFLX, AAPL, AMZN, SNOW, MSFT, GOOGL.
The other 50% as others have suggested VOO or SPLG.At your age, I prefer a large cap growth SCHG (Instead of SCHD).
Reach out if you’re down to invest in personal knowledge, I’ve got couple of books on PDF for a starter!
