What’s your favorite recipe for a homemade, non-toxic laundry detergent? I’m looking for a simple, effective, and eco-friendly option that’s safe for sensitive skin.

Bonus points if it’s budget-friendly and uses easily available ingredients! Would love to hear your tried-and-true recipes or tips.”

Be cautious if you have a HD washer.
My daughter used a bar of fels Napa grated, box of Botox and a box of washing soda.

I buy a 22 lbs bag of FOCA from Sam’s club for $17.50. It lasts my husband and I over one year!

I also spend $13 annually on borax and washing soda that I add to his work clothes. $30 per year is what I spend on washing detergent.

Honestly, I never had success with that.
            It didn’t clean the clothes.

Now, I use Nellie’s laundry soda, which doesn’t have a scent.

If I want scent, I also use Zum. It’s also all natural and Frankencense and Myrrh is our favorite.

Experts say homemade is as good as using water only. Buy a high quality detergent and use 2 T.

One box of borax, one box of washing soda, grated fels Napa soap ( mixed together and put in a container.)

If anyone has sensitive skin you may want to make a small amount and see if it bothers them. My daughter’s (3 of them) would be rashy and itchy in minutes just trying on hand-me-downs washed in borax.

I used to make it with borax, washing soda, and grated fels naptha bar. Used it for years.

It ruined my washing machine and I had to buy a new one.
Laundry soap isn’t good in modern washers.

Laundry detergent is something completely different and can only be made via chemical reaction.

Not telling you what to do, but research it first.

Don’t unless you want to wear out your washing machine. Use less detergent. I follow a washing machine repairwoman.

She recommends just 2 tablespoons of detergent per load.

I just use the lowest measure on my Tide lid unless I’m doing a very dirty load.

I also wash on warm or hot depending on the items.

I use 2 cups washing soda, 2 cups baking soda, 1 cup epsom salt, 1 cup oxi clean and several drops of lemon essential oil.

Mix it at together. Use 2TBS per load. Double if it’s extra dirty. Works great!

Honestly, detergents are one thing I don’t bother messing with. Use only a small amount for laundry like a table spoon or two.

Same goes for dishwasher detergents. A small amount will suffice.

Off brand/generics work fine too. Save your time and money.

Listen to the people that say it can ruin a HE machine. It can kill your pump, or other expensive repairs.

I haven’t completely killed a machine with it, but mine is now making a horrible noise when it pumps water in.

I’m just waiting for it to fully go so I can get rid of my front loader
